I think it's an unusual case.

It is and isn't. Many years ago my then boyfriend and I used to live next door to a couple like this. We gave up calling the police when it kicked off as she just denied he had been hitting her. We weren't there very long- not sure what more we could have done and to be honest I was scared of both them. They didn't have children then but she was pregnant when we moved.

Katie was quizzed by Butterworth’s QC Gary Allan about a statement given to police I know Gary but obviously I couldn't discuss this with him.

I didn't mean fromthat point lass, I meant from the charge of culpable homicide for the baby. I presume it's because the baby was born and lived for a few days; the assault was on the mother.

Dear God. Poor baby. Don't know what to think about that girl. Hope she comes to her senses. Why do some women think they are worth that?

Sorry - that wasn't clear from your post. I assumed you were querying what her motivation is for protecting him.

I don't see anything problematic about bringing the charge against him.

It is not clear from the report if the culpable homicide charge is the only charge. There could well be other charges.

Equally the Crown may have opted for that because despite her lack of co-operation there may be sufficient evidence to prove that charge.

Yes sorry I realise I wasn't very clear, trying to gather my own thoughts about it.
