Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

censorship

It has become apparent that a lot of feminist viewpoints are bring censored, deleted, edited and banned for subjective and ill defined infrations like being perceived as 'goady' or 'barracking' or 'offensive', whilst simultaneously other, misogynistic viewpoints are allowed to stand.

Perhaps part of this is that most of us feminists also stand for freedom of speech and fair debate, so we rarely report or block others. I'd prefer to persuade others through a compelling argument than silence them. And of course that means we tolerate trolls and derails better than the other side do.

But this means our voices are getting heard less and less. They report us, but we don't report them.

Now that the moderation style seems to have changed here, should WE be reporting stuff we consider goady to us? I've never done this before.

It's getting very unbalanced in here. Only one position seems to get censored.

I do report goady threads on the feminism boards - men who just come her to talk rubbish.

Yes, I think you should start doing that. And otherwise ignore the trolls.

To be fair barrack mumsnet is one of the only places where 'the other side' is heard at all. And I think MNHQ have a hard job. Some posts are a bit below the belt too.
The Jess Philips Web chat was ridiculous. Of course a politician can't openly say they think "woman" is a biological term. They'd be no platformed for being a "TERF" and probably get some death and rape threats thrown in for good measure.
I think MNHQ do a good job, all things considered

I've been here a decade and i'm increasingly getting the impression that MN is now moderating more and more on the subject. I think Spartacus threads were a peak moment and for a very short while there was tolerance for people saying women have the right to define themselves biologically. But MNHQ are now actively suppressing this kind of opinion more.

I've been very appreciative that MNHQ have provided a forum where free speech is possible. But I think that window is beginning to close.
I predict that in a couple of years we won't be able to have this kind of discussion here any more.
