Last night chatting to my long-distance boyf via facebook messenger- all fine and dandy - (we see each other regularly in real life, it's not online only).

He put up a link on his facebook to this comedy sketch that has really spun me out in a bad way, and I'm not sure .. I'm not sure if I'm overreacting or just living up to the humourless feminist stereotype or what.. or if it's just because it's him and maybe he's not who I thought he was in some way... So tell me what you think:

It's nsfw, link at the end if you want to watch it. It's a parody of a bad porno opening, with an awkward builder-type guy working with a nail-gun. He is interrupted by his bosses wife, who is dressed sexily and tells him how poor her sex life with the boss is and comes on to him. As she kneels to open his trousers to presumably give him oral sex, he accidentally shoots her in the head with the nail-gun he is still holding. He wipes off finger-prints and puts the nail-gun in her hand to cover up the accident.

I think it's taking the piss out of porn and the stereotypes.

From the description those clips are not remotely funny, just nasty. Why would anyone post them?

I know it's intended to be funny and probably is if you identify with the man.

But I really reacted very strongly to it, in a way that surprised me. I think it's the shot of her face and the blood. And that's seen as funny. That's the punchline. I know it's cast as an accident rather than violence against women, but it just struck me badly.

Maybe I am overthinking it.

The message is that the woman doesn't matter, she is disposable. If you identify with the man and see women as unimportant it might be funny, but not if you value women as human beings.

It would upset me too, you're not overreacting.

You're not being unreasonable! I'd have to question why he finds that kind of video funny?!!

Yeah.

It's information I am logging, I guess.

I brought it up with him, and he didn't poo-poo it or make out it was me being oversensitive, but responded with an apology and will do better. So.

That is literay the east funny thing I have ever seen, and if a bf sent me that as an example of his humour i would run a country mile. Tbf I'd cite Mrs Browns Boy's as reason for a break up tbh

You're not over reacting. 2 women a week are killed by people they know, often in their own homes. It's not appropriate subject matter for a joke.

"id say its tasteless yeah but he probs just thought it was okay" I would say that was true.

Which is what makes it worrying.

Yeah.

I did notice that not one woman 'liked' the link, but several men did.

I think it's so normalised to men, they don't even see it.

Sorry, what is supposed to be funny about it?

Bit of a weird thing to send isn't it, if you're not 14, and a bit of a loser, at the same time?

I would really struggle to find any man that funny this funny even remotely attractive.

This is the problem. Men think it is OK. They think violence against women is a hilarious joke.
