Is it just me who wishes that the anti feminist...

..thread starters weren't deleted? Often there is really interesting discussion on them before they're zapped, and I fondly imagine that, while the OP isn't going to have their views changed, other people who might have similar opinions might think a bit. And surely we don't need protecting from the gits? We can look after ourselves....

The fairy liquid thread was deleted, I couldn't see any reason for that. It was a light relief.

The mug thread I suppose because OP was trying to sell them.

BertrandRussell Mon 21-Dec-15 16:20:56

Oh, I didn't realise they were trying to sell the mugs- I thought it was a "look at the sort of things feminists find funny" thread.

QueenStromba Mon 21-Dec-15 16:47:47

I was really confused by the feminist merchandise thread being deleted - I had no idea they were trying to sell mugs either.

I'm another one who is disappointed when comments are removed from MRAs. Rarely get to see them. They should remain so it is obvious to any visitors/lurkers what total brain fades they are.

I agree generally it's best to let them stand. I have reported a few, though, if very egregious (one a couple of years ago that had images of violence against women, for example).

BertrandRussell Mon 21-Dec-15 16:59:40

I think that generally deleting them gives then more credibility. They, and their little friends will think they must have really hit home for them to be deleted.....

I didn't spot it was a sales pitch-Lurcio did and whether or not she reported it's against the rules.

I like 'I'm a feminist, not the fun kind'

BertrandRussell Mon 21-Dec-15 17:58:56

Make them, Buffy- I'll buy 6. To start with.

Well the obvious route for ethical merchandising is to commission a female potter to throw them and paint on your own slogans of choice

That can be your job on the no fun fem island state Buffy, after the revolution where we overthrow the patriarchy.

I'd agree that some of the more ridiculous 'all women are bastards and feminism is awful' threads could be allowed to stand, because some of them are actually kind of amusing in their formulaic misogyny.

What concerns me more are the really nasty anti-feminist posters who, by dint of them having been posting on the site for x number of years, don't get deleted for saying pretty much the same things. One day, if I have the time and energy, I'll collate a few examples and send them in to MNHQ.

Didn't see the mug one. Shame. I'd quite like a 'gender is slavery' mug.

PlaysWellWithOthers Tue 22-Dec-15 08:27:27

Or possibly 'Damn boy, are you a bra? Because you make me uncomfortable but society has brainwashed me into thinking I need you'

Trills Tue 22-Dec-15 08:42:34

deleting them gives then more credibility

I don't really agree - for most people deleting them makes them invisible, because we don't see every thread.

VestalVirgin Wed 23-Dec-15 12:54:03

If you want to read comments by MRAs, visit any other forum. I am very, very glad that the anti-feminist threads are removed - the forums would be full of them, and we would do nothing but fight anti-feminist trolls on here.

It is okay if you like fighting anti-feminists on the internet, but I like that on mumsnet, one can actually talk about feminist ideas with other feminist, not explain feminism to antifeminists all the damn time.

"If you want to read comments by MRAs, visit any other forum. "

I can't- they keep banning me!

I know what you mean, though. I just wonder whether deletion might make people think they've said someone significant.

VestalVirgin Wed 23-Dec-15 15:47:06

All the forums, or just the MRA forums?

You could try spacefem. Part of why I never really like the forums was that there's so little activity, but they also have a fair share of "But whyyyyy is it called feminism, not equalism?" and such. Together with a lack of insightful feminist debate, that's why the forum bores me.

BertrandRussell Wed 23-Dec-15 17:06:42

I suppose I think that rhe long term anti feminists on this forum might read the MRA arsehole posts on here and have a Road to Damascus experience. But I am eternal optimist- despite my 40 years at the feminist coal-face.......

TheseBedroomWalls Wed 23-Dec-15 21:16:55

I think the same way...plus I think anti-feminists are such thickos that it really shows when they are faced with the ultra-smart women on here, and most people wouldn't want to be associated with such intellectually challenged men, surely?
