Revenge porn website operator given 18 year sentence

Good news this morning, hopefully there will be more prosecutions and sentences of others involved in 'revenge porn' to follow. The whole concept is abhorrent but it is particularly nasty making money from charging victims to have the pictures etc removed from the site.

Good. I don't have the slightest interest in looking at pictures of people having sex but it's sad really the reaction to such sites can't just be " people having concensual sex, no children and animals involved, who cares?"

What a disgusting individual. I'm glad he got such a hefty jail sentence. It sends out a strong message to other men that this isn't ok.

Seems like he was convicted for blackmail/extortion using revenge porn rather than revenge porn itself?

Because if the extortion angle and he plead not guilty maybe? Not sure.

Yes I would think the extortion element was what resulted in such a long sentence. Bad enough to host a website for this purpose but to then charge for taking down these pictures and profit from it is what really makes me so delighted he received the sentence he did.

I'd also like to see more prosecutions of the men who upload these pictures in the first place. I wouldn't expect such long sentences in those cases but I do think increased prosecutions would act as a significant deterrent to anyone thinking of doing something like that.

It's not illegal to host (or post) revenge porn I don't think (at least not in that state). However the assholes who run these sites often hack and extort. Because they are assholes.
