Blackbirds

Female Blackbirds are brown. Should the species be renamed as something else as clearly the male Blackbird has a sense of entitlement that assumes his mate will take his name.

Or are there better things to do and I'm just going slightly mad because it's not quite 6am and I have not had enough coffee.

You could call them by their Latin name Turdus merula?
Or by the dialect word colly, probably linked to coal-dust, and coal can be all shades of brown and black.
Or you could have a large mug of coffee and think about it. Smile

Funnily enough I was just thinking about that yesterday morning walking the kids to school. Grin

You'd not get far calling them brownbirds.

Turdus?

I don't think the female blackbirds would find that flattering :o
