Has Covid affected me...

Pretty sure I had Covid last March although was never tested. At the time I had several of the symptoms including shortness of breath which has affected me since then.

Now I am just tired all the time and in the past few months my periods are different too. Has anyone else found this? My PMT is much worse than it ever used to be - I almost feel like I'm in a black hole which I can't get out of for the few days before my period. My periods are much heavier than ever before as well and at one point I was having 2 periods a month although back to roughly every 30 days now. I've read some things about Covid affecting periods but I wonder whether to see the GP. Is there even anything they could do? I don't want to go on anything like the pill as that's never agreed with me in the past.

Should also add I stopped breastfeeding around November time so I'm not sure if that could be a contributing factor too.

I would see the GP and if they cannot help they should refer you to a gynae. This is likely not due to covid but perhaps something like fibroids (these can cause heavy bleeding) or thyroid problems. It certainly warrants further investigation.

Thyroid problems might make sense, looking at the symptoms for under active. Thanks - I think I'll call the doctor and try and get a blood test booked in.

We've just gone through winter with no chance to make vitamin D. It's a hormone and affects mood, energy and lots of other things.
What supplement dosage are you taking?

I think you should see your gp. Although I haven’t heard of Covid causing any issues with periods it’s obviously a new illness we don’t know much about

I’ve got long covid - no period issues but just about every other kind of random symptom from effecting my eyesight through to having sore shins. It’s a weird weird illness and I wouldn’t put anything past it!

My blood tests have shown low thyroid which I don’t know is definitely covid related but have heard of other people with low thyroid after covid. If that can affect periods then it could all add up.

I don't take any vitamin D supplements although I really should. If it was caused by lack of Vitamin D would the low mood be all the time or just at certain times? I'd say it's more like PMT but just a lot more extreme than before. I have read a couple of articles where people said their periods had been affected by Covid but thought I would ask here to see what people had found themselves.

I've contacted the GP today so just waiting to hear what they advise.

If you Google there are articles about low vitamin D making periods worse. Well-documented symptoms include fatigue, low mood, depression.
As you haven't been taking any, and we can only get 10% from food, I'd assume you are deficient.
You can get a test online for about £35. BetterYou and Thriva do them amongst others. With BetterYou they throw in a free vitamin D spray too. GPs are told not to test people unless symptoms are severe and there are other problems. But they could advise you on an appropriate loading dose once you get your test back. They might even prescribe the better stuff - the one which can be used by the body immediately, rather than being processed through the organs.
Obviously, it could be something else. Did your GP have any thoughts?

I'm an HCP working in a long covid clinic. There appear to be lots of women experiencing heavier, more painful periods and more clots since having covid. We signpost back to GPs as it isn't within my scope of practice.
