Itchy breast

I have had an itchy breast now for over 2 months. It’s itching from my nipple upwards. I can’t see any skin changes (apart from where I’ve scratched it raw!) no rash, no lump. I’ve not changed soap or fabric softener/wash powder anything that could explain it.

I’d put up with it for quite a while and when I finally started thinking I need to get it looked at lockdown happened so I don’t want to waste my gps time even if I could get an appointment.

Does anyone know what it might be?

I’m still breastfeeding my youngest but only on one side (the opposite breast to the itchy one) there’s been no milk in the itchy breast for 3 years now as dd could never feed from that side. I’m not sure if it’s relevant but wanted to give all the info.

You do need to get that checked out. There is a very small chance it could be something called inflammatory breast cancer. It’s not very likely, but it still needs investigating. Give your GP a call next week and see what they think.

Yes you should get it checked, just in case there is something going on that you can’t feel externally. Some babies do just refuse a breast, a couple of my friends have had babies who far preferred one breast, but it always needs checking out, just in case there is something affecting the function. Could be a cyst for instance, not necessarily breast cancer.
