Periods after pregnancy

I had my first period 5 weeks after the birth of dc. It was heavy for over a week.
After that should my body return to it's usual cycle that I had pre-pregnancy?

Mine took about 3 I think til it gradually went back to basically the same as pre-pregnancy. But I guess everyone is different. My first few were actually much lighter than pre-pregnancy, then they gradually went back to the my very long, very heavy ones again!
