Spotting between periods

I’m 44 and I was diagnosed with PCOS some 15+ years ago, cycles have been variable in that time so nothing seems unusual for me.

I had a baby almost 3 years ago. Since he was born my periods have become more regular but cycles still longer than average. DH has had the snip so we don’t use any other contraception.

For the last 2 and a half weeks, I have been experienced spotting, nothing major but pretty much every time I wipe. It’s been constant but not enough to need a panty liner or pad. According to my app period would have been due around 3 days ago. There are no signs that period is going arrive, no symptoms of ovulation this cycle either. I had a similar episode about 8 months ago but my cycle was still it’s normal(ish) length.

I’ve googled the symptoms and the most likely cause is a hormonal imbalance but there are also other implications as well. Do I need to see the GP? Wait it out? Fear the worst or just look daft for over worrying about?

Hi, I had a similar problem recently. My dr wanted 3 cycles of unusual spotting before he would refer me for further investigation. I too have pcos as well as endometriosis. In the end, I had blood tests, ultrasound and internal exam. This proved inconclusive so I was told to just keep an eye on it and keep a record. After 6 months, I went back as it was still happening and was referred under the 2ww system. I was so worried, but I had a normal smear test so I knew it couldn’t be anything too serious. In the end It turned out to be an ectropian which was treated there and then with silver nitrate. It seems to have worked.

The dr did say though that if I had been mid 40s, then they would have investigated me for early menopause too.

So, in my experience, you need this unusual bleeding to have happened in more than one cycle for them to investigate further. Hope it is a one off and it settles down.
