I've just had my first smear done (not got the results yet) and am worrying a bit as I had an unexplained incompetent cervix as reason for pregnancies being premature.
The nurse said if its HPV positive they look for cancerous cells but if not then they don't, but she said if it is HPV positive they test again until its cleared up on its own.
If HPV is sexually transmitted wouldn't it not show up positive anymore even if I had had it at some point due to having the same partner for years?
Is there a reason why they don't test for cancerous cells regardless of HPV?
