...and loved it. Very different to my usual read (books are so expensive I get scared to venture out of the norm!) very interesting to read about that era (1348, during the plague).

Anyone else liked it, and if so do you have any other recommendations for me?

Thanks!

ooh ooh ooh someone gave me a copy of this but haven't read it yet

I am reading The Gargoyle which is dark & funny & a bit gruesome so far

You should try your library if you want to try something different, they can order books in if they don't have it in stock and it won't cost much

I use the library too when I can get there but I never know what to get! I like recommendations!

I really enjoyed it too, although my SIL had absolutely RAVED about it, so it was a slight let down as she'd overhyped it a bit!

If you enjoyed those, have you read CJ Sansom's Shardlake series - Dissolution, Sovereign, Dark Fire and Revelation?

No, are they a similar theme?

I thought this was great.

Increasingly sinister and very evocative of time and place. Makes you glad to live in the 21st century.

I'm reading the The Time Traveller's Guide to Medieval England at the moment which is a great factual companion to the Company of Liars, explaining all sorts of things about the law, church, medicine, customs etc.

They are set in the time of Henry VIII and are murder/crime mystery books - but not really heavy going. We read one for book group and most of us have gone on to read the rest.
