I didn't make it past apge one.

Couldn't see the point in reading something like that when there are good books out there wating to be read.

I'll join in the yawning

very well written, intriguing description of a mother who really doesn't like her child. raised lots of questions about society etc etc.

i disliked all the characters, i dislike the writer but have to admit loved the book.

I was fascinated by the question whether the child was "bad" due to bad mothering or whether the mother was failing because she had given birth to an "evil" child.

I loved every bit of it.

Try to stick with it.
I read it a while ago but think i skipped some of the early stuff, it does get really good.

I did like the book and the twist of sorts at the end.

I like to re-read books but this one i've never been able to get back into. I did have a bit more time when first read it!

Emkana - yes I was interested in that question, nature nurture etc
Very interesting

but I couldnt get past page 3

I had a flick through the rest and put it in the charity shop bag

I found the mothers dislike of her child disturbing
And the tedious minutae detail she goes into........

I understood why she and her husband split up

It is a great work of speculations.

I was also interested in the nature nurture question and also very intriqued at the thought of her having such horrid feelings towards her son

I liked the book

i thought it was well written

bless my poor sister without thinking she recommended it to me not long after i had a misscarriage then kept saying leave it oh its not good etc

even in the frame of mind i was in at the time i managed to finish it and then DH read it

When I read it I felt that at the baby stage the child is certainly difficult, but she chooses to interpret it as manipulative and evil, when with a different mother potentially things could have developed differently?

Nothing

she didn't split up with her husband!

I did actually enjoy it. I had to persevere but am thankful I did! Its just so bloody chilling. I swayed between feeling empathy for the mum and then hating her at the same time.

What did happen to him eleanor?
I just imagined they split up because he thought 'God this woman rambles on and on about the most boring of things' (pasta?) and 'she writes ridiculously long letters' and 'She is a cold hard woman who lacks empathy'

ha ha, we won't tell

She is not a cold woman, far from it, btw

But that may spoil it Pandora for any other people reading the thread! What happens to him is the most chilling aspect of the book!

Nope no desire whatsoever to read it to find out

So many other books in this world that are more deserving of my time
