World Book Day events

I know there's a thread in Education about costumes etc., but I wondered about having one here about the events happening on the day (in schools and elsewhere) and people's reaction to/ opinion of them.

I'm travelling an hour-and-a-bit from home to do all-day workshops at a school (as they asked first)!

I'd be interested to hear people's reaction to the events and visits which their children's schools organise tomorrow.

Or anything else WBD-related!

Erm ... best bit is the book token!!! (from dc's point of view)

Worst bit is any competetive costume parade (from dc's point of view and my own)

Storytelling/sharing always good, whether by visiting author or by visiting parents/grandparents/carers. Author workshops very mixed - sometimes dc's have labelled them 'boring' others say 'quite good'. not sure if vast increase in authors book sales

School has done similar things for Poetry Day/Week which I actually slightly prefer because I think poetry is something that doesn't always get quite such a high profile otherwise.

It doesn't really do a lot for book sales of the visiting author in my experience UNLESS they have the chutzpah to take along copies to sell! And enough copies to do so, of course.

Ds is in Yr8 and I was surprised they still did a dressing up day for lower school. DS has gone in as a CHERUB which is simple a black tshirt and combats.
They also have an author coming next week.
