Every year I reread Charles Dickens' Christmas Stories and every year I am reminded that there are a couple of things I don't understand in them.
In Cricket on the Hearth, why is Bertha so upset when she hears Tackleton is getting married?? Was she in love with him, is she sad for her brother? Or May??
In The Haunted Man, what does it mean when the Phantom "passes to before the chair" when Redlaw turns round to look at it - where is he heading? The next time its position is mentioned, it's still leaning on the back of the chair.
