I'm 80 pages in and finding it dull, shall I carry on? I hate starting a book and not finishing it

I really enjoyed it. But if you're not enjoying it then stop. It isn't worth forcing yourself to read something you don't enjoy. Move on, guilt free ☺

I thought it was worth it. Fantastic ending.

I hated it too.

Having finished it I was glad that I did persevere, although I can't understand why there is so much hype about it. Certainly not a favourite!

I hated it too - far too self-consciously clever and lacking in feeling.

I enjoyed it, but thought the film was better.

Blossom that's exactly how I felt about it too- just couldn't put it into words! Very much "trying too hard" I think

Blossom- I feel the same, it feels very sort of self indulgent? Ok I'll carry on & report back, I always think it's worth carrying on in case the next chapter is gripping & ive missed out then by not finishing it off Smile

It gets better after all the dreary details about the play. I enjoyed it after that.

A rare case of where I found the film better.

It's one of my favourite novels - but it's very much my sort of thing ... privileged upper classes/ hot sultry summer/ big country house / looming WWII / repressed emotions/ family secrets/ lush descriptions of setting, food, clothes . I can see why someone wouldn't be bothered by it though and fwiw I see no shame in abandoning a book that I'm not enjoying 😄

It's one of the few Book Group choices that we all really loved. Wonderful read.

Just finished it. It did get better, but overall I didn't think it was fantastic

I loved it. I thought it was very atmospheric. Loads of people hate it though!
