I won this in a competitor and it's been sitting unread for a couple of weeks! Not sure why I haven't read it yet - thanks for the reminder! (Why yes, my TBR pile is monstrous.)

I read it and now wonder why I have never been to Orkney.

Hello, I read his book last weekend, and I really enjoyed it! I have visited a lot of Scottish islands, but not Orkney and it made me desperate to go. At first I thought it was a bit self indulgent and I wanted to know more about the people on Papay, but I think that came out towards true end and she obviously had to address her own demons first.

I loved the descriptions of swimming and snorkelling, and finding the corncrakes.

I listened to the R4 adaptation and really enjoyed it. Would like to read the book.

Hi there, I hope you don't mind me nipping in but I was really pleased to spot this thread as I've also just read this book and we've just booked this in as non-fiction book of the month in September when it comes out in paperback. We'll be giving copies away and giving readers the opportunity to post up questions to author Amy Liptrot. I'll post on this thread when this happens. I agree- a beautifully written and honest book that has really stayed with me (and made me desperate to head up to Orkney!)

Aargh, I always seem to end up buying a book at full price and then finding it's reduced soon afterwards! Anyway, I'll look forward to the webchat with Amy.

Loved this book and going to see Amy at the Edinburgh book festival in August. Super excited.
