My Salinger Year - continuity question

Hope somebody can help with this - I was backwards & forwards on kindle but none the wiser & it's driving me mad!

She has the interview with publishing agency just before Christmas.
Job starts after Christmas.
Then she recounts having had knee problems in mid-Dec, before the interview, & Leigh nicks the painkillers & puts her hand through the window.
She goes to look at the apartment with Don & when they get back to Leigh's apt Leigh's hand is bandaged so it's the same day or soon after.
& THEN she tells them Salinger is a client.
But she hasn't even had the interview yet, let alone started the job & worked out who Jerry is???

Someone please tell me what I'm missing
