Really enjoying this Sky Arts drama at the moment and just wondered if anyone could recommend any books on a similar theme.

What is Legacy about? (Haven't got Sky any more). Might be able to help if I knew what sort of thing it is Smile

Is it big complex family dramas you're looking for? Have a few ideas there.

How about A Thousand Acres by Jane Smiley which is based roughly on King Lear but in an American setting and is about a legacy?

Oh, and by the way, i think The Legacy is a great family saga. I love Signe.

Was going to switch it off when I saw it was subtitled but thought I'd give it five minutes and was so glad I did! Was really hoping it was based on a book but alas no.

Will have a look at your recommendation Bethshart and yes please to more complex family sagas Duchess.

Ok Smile My first suggestion was going to be The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen. I think it might appeal to you. Will have a look through my Goodreads booklist and come back with some more.

Here's a list offamily sagas from Goodreads.

I was also going to suggest Gone With the Wind - if it's not too melodramatic for you (not really my kind of book any more), The Forsyte Saga perhaps?

Or maybe a more recent novel - Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie?

Forgot to add The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCulloch - is a rattling good long family drama :)

If you think you'd like more Danish subtitled dramas and are interested in the shenanigans of politics or the effect on a woman's life of being a politician, then Borgen is absolutely brilliant. Another one I've found is Rita which is about a maverick woman teacher, also Danish, which is very good too. She's an amazing character, loves being a teacher, and it's full of issues that affect teachers but shows how difficult it is sometimes to care about your children at home as much as you care about the children at school, especially when you've got a rather messed up family life. The Danes are very good at making the kind of dramas we used to make a lot of. These days a lot of dramas on tv are centred around the police - good, but sometimes you yearn for a change.
