Just finished reading it on kindle. I think I had seen this book recommended here on MN. Enjoyed it very much, so thank you for posting.

Also really liked Tideline (Penny Hancock).

Any recommendations along these lines very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Yes, I enjoyed Black is the Colour a lot. I haven't read Tideline but I will look it up if it is similar.
I would also recommend Lesley Glaister - she's not that well known but I love her style of writing, very fresh and easy-going. I really liked 'As Far As You Can Go' and 'Nina Todd has gone'.

I've just finished this.

A very gripping read, would reccomend it!
However I am slightly annoyed with the ending....!

I read this over Easter and actually loved the ending!!! (not really what I was expecting though)
I think it would make a great TV drama, a bit like the Ice Cream Girls that has been on recently. It's a good read for anyone who likes to get into something straight away but has a bit of literaryness about it if you know what I mean!

ps I'm assuming we are talking about Black is the colour, not As far as you can go? as I haven't read that yet.

GypsyJo the ending wasn't what I expected either - I was routing for her to escape for good!

I was talking about black is the colour not as far as we can go, I haven't read that yet but I have added it to my wish list in the hope that it will come down a bit in price! Grin

I bought a copy of As Far As you can go off ebay - it arrived yesterday, started reading last night and I'm hooked already. Probably won't get anything done today lol

Thanks for recommendation Bimblebee, I agree it's a very similar style to Black is the Colour.

Hi everyone
Just noticed that the two recommendations of the Lesley Glaister books (Nina Todd has Gone and As Far As You Can Go) are both down to £1.31 on Amazon if you buy the Kindle version. I can wholeheartedly vouch for both of them if you enjoyed the Helen Howe book.

Possible spoilers

I've just finished this, on a Mumsnet recommendation. I loved every page of it, right up until the ending, which actually really annoyed me. Too many loose ends not tied up but it was the rather more disturbing 'oh well, he didn't do THAT, so he's really an okay guy, never mind all the other bad stuff' type feel that got me. But definitely a writer with promise, will look out for her next one.
