Booker Prize 2011

There have been rumblings that this year's Man Booker shortlist is too populist and not experimental enough. What did you think of the line up? (Find them here) How many of the books have you managed to read? What's your favourite to win tonight?

I haven't read any of those yet, - but I think it looks an interesting selection, I may drop hints for Christmas

I rather hope Julian Barnes wins, - he's been the bridesmaid too many times, for some excellent previous books.

I read Jamrach's Menagerie when it was longlisted for the Orange Prize, from the library, and have downloaded a copy for my Kindle as it seemed quite a reasonable price and not having to worry about storage space for new books is a good thing when you buy/acquire as many as I do.

I had a review copy of Half Blood Blues and submitted my review the day the longlist was announced, though I didn't realise until the next day.

I've read The Sense of an Ending - I really liked both this and the Edugyan book a lot and can see positive things about either winning. I liked Jamrach too but am not sure it should win.

I have two of the others on my Kindle (I had a Kindle longlist buying spree, and Snowdrops was only £1.99 at that time) and am planning to buy The Sisters Brothers at some point - not my usual thing but I'm curious to read it anyway.

Anyone else watching BBC2's programme about a village reading all six books and voting on their winner? Two of the authors currently visiting the local bookclub (and looking quite apprehensive)...

My vote torn between Pigeon English and Sense of an Ending.

elkiedee, hats off to your reading stamina. You almost convince me to get a Kindle...

The only one I'm vaguely interested in reading is the Sisters Brothers. I'm finding it very hard to believe that this selection is the pinnacle of English language fiction from the entire Commonwealth this year. If so, that's a bit depressing...

In case anyone can't find it (have just been scrabbling round schedules) it's on BBC News channel and online (and I think the World Service?) at 9.30pm.
