My local library has a digital library, so you can download books to your PC. Better still, you can download them to a smartphone or e-reader too. So I have an HTC phone, and am now able to read lots of the latest books for free. It's wonderful!

Hmmm, thanks for the info, will ask at my library, although i do quite enjoy holding the old book in my hand, hearing the rustle of paper whilst flicking through the pages.

Sherlock your library is obviously better equipped than ours. I asked at ours and they said they were waiting to see what happens with ebooks as its a bit like "betamax versus vhs at the moment*. Have to admit that I am that old I actually know what she was referring too.

JJJ! How? How is it like "Betamax versus VHS". they are all mostly compatible. I too, am old enough to understand her reference, but maybe she really has been asleep for the last 30 years! :)

It's Kindle format against all the other ones at the minute.

Kindles can only read copyright protected books in Kindle format whereas the other readers can read copyright protected books in any format but the Kindle one.

At present UK libraries are using the DRM protected PDFs which cannot be read by the Kindle but can be read by Sony eReader etc.

I would check online to see if your library offers eBooks rather than asking the staff. I went into my local library to let the staff know there was a bug in the login section for downloading eBooks from the library website and the staff there had no idea what I was talking about. They didn't know that people could download eBooks from their website or that such a thing as eBooks exsisted :)

RLR yes hope it isn't the library staff who are in charge of sorting these things out as the comment does sow a slight lack of understanding.

mouse will take a look at their website, thanks for that Smile
