What we're reading

Please can you recommend me some holiday reading?

Examples of books I have really enjoyed: "Notes on a Scandal" by Zoe Heller; "We need to talk about Kevin" by Lionel Shriver; "How to be Good" by Nick Hornby and "Room" by Emma Donoghue.

I tend to like novels set in fairly recent times and "fantasy" type novels don't tend to appeal to me. Also open to suggestions of good non-fiction holiday reads.

I've just read and enjoyed 'Call the Midwife' by Jennifer Worth, although I think it's set in 1950's-1960's.
How about... 'Cutting for Stone' by Abraham Verghese - excellent book, very interesting reading.
Anything by Sophie Hannah for psychological thrillers.

It sounds like you like books with a bit of 'depth' to them; whereas my 'baby brain' is mostly only up to chicklit!

Enjoy!
