no - it's over-hyped, badly edited, turgidly tranlated mysoginistic tripe

Funny you should post this - my friend has lent me all 3 books and raved about them. I just can't get into it, am about 200 pages in and bored senseless.

It is boring, I couldn't get into it either, enjoyed the fim though.

My mum raved about it and I found it so difficult to get into. Too much description of boring business stuff at the beginning. But the middle bit is good! But then the last 100 pages of the book go back to over descriptive dullness.... Upto you. I've read worse and there was quite a bit of suspense in the 2nd third of the book...

You can tell its been translated into English rather than written in it though, and all the foreign names do get confusing.

I really liked it (sorry Basildon) and went on to read the other two after it. But I have a rule which is 50 pages and if a book hasn't grabbed me, then life is too short and I don't persevere.

I would agree with Basildon in as much as I don't view it as a 'literary' novel and therefore I was not reading it just to enjoy the writing or the way the story was crafted. I read it because I wanted to know what happened. Although having watched the film recently, I was very glad I had read the book first because the plot was far more intricate than the film portrayed.

I couldn't get into it either, but I thought it was just that I was too knackered to concentrate on anything but chicklit. Or that my brain had permanently atrophied. Feel slightly better now, thanks for cheering me up!

Glad its not just me finding this book tedious

i'm not sure if it's pg brain thats stopping me getting into it or not. it's just a bit 'meh'

i may keep on for a few more pages yet though as there is nothing else here to read and telly is crap.

I eventually managed to get to the end - didn't like the subject matter, some of the more graphic scenes and felt a bit 'so what' at the end of it.

Life is too short and there are better books to spend your time reading ...

My friend bought it for me for my birthday as she loved it, and apparently couldn't put it down.

I am a keen reader, and have attempted it a few times, but it does nothing for me. Have only got to about page 50 and I've had it for months!!!! Friend keeps asking me about it, and I haven't got the heart to tell her I don't like it!

Defo stick with. It took me ages to get into it, but I stuck with it and I'm glad I did.

The second book is even better and much easier to read imo.

I liked it. but then, I am a prole.

I'm on the final book now, and I quite like all the descriptive chit chat - I quite like thinking...um is that Lars Larsson of the SOPE or Lar LEERson of the FOFA. I just kind of keep reading and eventually it becomes clear.

I found it hard at first, but then it improved, and worth sticking with

i found the first quarter pretty boring but then it really picked up and i finished it wanting to read the others.

but it took a LOT to get into it.

I bought this and was very excited about reading it because so many people said it was brilliant and exciting. Have to admit for the first few chapters I was a bit underwhelmed, but it's getting better. I'm going to finish it but I'm still not chomping at the bit to buy the next two.

Oooh yes, keep going. About a quarter of the way through the first one you (or at least, I) get drawn in.

Somebody gave me this and I tried starting it late last night. I thought it was unreadable tbh: turgid, clunky and full of him telling me rather than showing me - I managed twenty pages before giving up in disgust and I doubt I'll try again.

hate the first quarter then enjoyed it, but it is pretty misogenistic

i'm a bit disappointed. will keep on with it though.

I'm still reading it because I started it. It isn't the worst thing I've read, but it hasn't been the let-the-dinner-burn and up til 4am gripping read I was told it would be. I'm not that taken with the Lisbeth Salander (the girl with the dragon tattoo) to be honest. Think she was meant to be this cool and radical heroine but she doesn't do it for me.

Report
seenyertoeslately · 19/08/2010 00:56

Interested enough to be starting the third book but also not taken with Salander - mainly because I just can't believe in such a person. I am slightly irritated by the way people's clothes are described for no apparent reason. "She was wearing black trousers, a white shirt and dark jacket.' So?
