I am getting blue dots and putting ON weight

I am really struggling. I am within my points every week, blue dots four out of seven days last week and yet I'm not losing weight.
I've actually put on 1lb this week.
It's depressing and makes me think why bother!
Anyone any idea on what could be going on?

Are you due on?
Are you having all your points?
Eating veg and drinking fluids?

Not due on as on pill.
I do eat veg but because I'm still on quite a high point allowance if I eat too much veg I end up full and don't use all my dailies, which is just as bad

The only way to lose weight is to be in a calorie deficit.

Doesn't matter if you're following all of Weight Watchers' rules - if you're eating more calories than you're burning you will gain weight.

I've lost weight fine before. I've made no changes to my routine whatsoever.
In fact working from home means I am eating less junk.

How long that you have stayed on that weight? If you are following the calorie intake deficit, you will lose weight. But sometimes our body keeps water and other products and it looks like nothing is paying you back for the hard work. Then, it all comes off at once! Do not give up. Make sure you are counting everything you eat and drink, and your activity levels. It will pay off if you stick to it!

I've spent a few weeks yo-yoing between the same 4lb.

1lb is nothing and this mentality is why people give up and end up on yoyo diets. Read up on water retention and body inflammation. It could be water because you had more carbs than usual, it could be temporary inflammation from strenuous exercise. Weightloss isn't always linear. Think longer-term. If you're eating healthily and steadily losing overall, there's nothing to stress about.

Which plan are you on? Hi s it the one where chicken breast etc is free? My leader always told me that I don't have to eat all my points if I am eating free foods too. Also I think you can heave weeks where you eat within points and not lose weight and also where you can eat within points but make bad choices - last week I had a terrible day where I ate 12 points worth of rich tea. I stayed within my daily allowance but it was a poor choice and I think if I did that every day I wouldn't lose weight regardless of staying within allowances.

I don’t have any experience of WW but to me, filling up on veg sounds fine! I take it you’re encouraged to hit a food intake “target” and you’re encourage not to go below that, because it’s bad? Why is it bad?

It sounds like the “starvation mode” myth that still persists. I think the likes of WW and SW like to peddle it because they want to attract members who are habitual over eaters (I’m not being judgemental btw, just objective) and are afraid of not being able to eat large portions and of feeling hungry and deprived.

So, going by what you’ve said, it sounds like the plan might be encouraging you to eat more than you want or need which would certainly cause you to plateau if not gain a little.

I also think that if you are currently WFH, then your baseline activity levels will be lower. For example, when I am at work, I average about 5000 steps a day just being up and about doing my normal things. When I was at home, I rarely went about 500 Blush Most of these plans (I usually follow SW) are based on you doing a 'normal' level of activity I suspect. I had the same thing; over lockdown I was following plan exactly and didn't lose or even gained a few times. Once I upped my steps to my normal base level I started losing again.

Just a thought. Try not to become demoralised! You sound like you are eating really well and healthily and that has to be a good thing Smile

I wear a fitbit so I know that my levels in a week are about the same as when I'm working.

Regardless this situation is just the last couple of months and I've been WFH since March

I've tried Weightwatchers in the past twice, followed it to the letter and I gained a couple of lbs each time. It doesn't work for some of us.

It’s so disappointing when that happens isn’t it. I still struggle to not bin it all in when I have an undeserved gain.

To lose properly I need to eat a decent amount under my point allowance and not touch weeklies. As soon as I start eating all points or a meal out even if exactly on point and don’t eat 1 thing over my weekly points I put on.

I try and follow the system as best I can it definitely helps me stay off the ridiculous amounts of chocolate I can put away but I always remind myself just because it’s free on WW doesn’t mean it doesn’t have calories.
