Help me come back from a colossal fail

The other night I was massively disappointed with my weight loss and I just didn’t feel that my 1lb loss matched the effort that I’d put in all week. (I know people will say it’s still a loss, but I’m entitled to feel that my hard work didn’t pay off I think) so I stupidly completely lost my way & had a big binge yesterday, a ridiculous amount of food.

My weigh in is next Tuesday evening, is there any hope of coming back from this? I’m completely unfit so while I’m willing to do a lot more walking than usual, going for a run etc is a bit out of the question at the moment! But food/walking wise, please help! I don’t want to go back there and have put on or stayed the same, in 1lb away from losing my first stone and mentally I can’t take another set back (even though it’s all my bloody fault)

Stop eating carbs , no bread, limit potato, no pasta, no rice. Basically things that are starchy and made of flour.
I have lost a Jean size in only a few weeks doing that and now in my pre pregnancy jeans that I haven't been able to get into for ages

Your mind set needs adjusting: wanting a certain loss every week isn't realistic. A better approach would be to decide to continue to eat well anyway, and see how you go over a number of weeks, not give up or restrict food more because you "can't take it" if you don't lose as much as you'd like or gain one week.

If you have a binge eating problem (I do) then WW might not help, if following it worsens the bingeing. There are good threads here on binge eating.

See I almost did that the previous week, I subbed most potato stuff for butternut squash, I had it mashed, roasted, cut in half and just scooped it out. I did have a bit of spaghetti & a small whole meal thin pizza base though. Right so that’s the first thing this week, I can do that. Thanks!

Loopy I’m usually pretty happy with any loss on ww, it was being so close to losing my first stone, so I just really worked hard to get that 2lb off so I could get there, and then it didn’t happen, was so disheartening. I promise I’m not expecting 5lbs to fall off every week, I was just really disappointed this particular week because I felt I’d worked for it

I think you need to focus on the total weight you have lost rather than what you may or may not have gained. Forget about your binge and get back on track straightaway. I find that some weeks I don't get the loss that I think that I deserve but I would usually get a bigger loss the following week IYSWIM. And be kind to yourself - it happens to us all!

Op just carry on as you were. You sound like you are doing really really well, losing weight sensibly and steadily! Treat it as what it is- a little blip! If you do put a lb on you know why, but you also know your back on the right track and you'll lose it next week! Congrats on being so close to your first stone!

I don’t buy the meals or anything lol I’ve been making my own stuff from scratch. You can make your own meals for much less points than their ready meals & surely they must taste better than something you throw in the microwave!

I realise I sound like a complete loon on this thread. I’ve had my shit together to get this far but just lost it yesterday like an idiot. I’ve lost nearly 3 stone with weight watchers before so I know it does work for me and I can do it, I just don’t want this week to be another write off, so I’m prepared to follow desperate measures for a few days to pull it back

Have you considered intermittent fasting? It's easy to do. You just stop eating by 8 the night before and don't eat till lubch the next day.
That really helps weight loss and has other health benefits like cell regeneration, and re starting your immune system. I do it every day with either a full 24 or 48 hour fast each week.

I haven’t tried it but sounds like I’ve just done it by accident because I’ve only just eaten something now lol.

He’s 4 months old. I don’t think I am putting a lot of pressure on myself unnecessarily, I have a lot of weight to lose, a neurological condition that’s only known ‘cure’ is weight loss, so my dr & neurologist are keen for me to lose the weight. But as I said normally I’m happy with any loss, it’s just this particular week I beat myself up a bit as I didn’t feel that the weight loss fit the effort I’d put in. I’m over that now and I just want to carry on & get that last 1lb off so I can carry on to the next stone bracket Smile

I know how frustrating it is. I have been on plan for over a year now. I have weeks where I can gain up to 4lbs despite staying on plan. The scales don't always reflect the efforts put in. Sometimes the losses are slower than we would like. I am getting used to having a gain week now and again (usually every four week) even though it is totally undeserved. I try and look at what I have lost over the last four weeks/month and how far I have come already, rather than focus on an unfair result. In the past I have been where you are, fed up with a result and then go and blow it! I am determined to stay on track this time, despite those poor results. Trust what you have been doing. Keep doing it. If I were you, I would just stick with your daily points. Write off your weeklies with the binge, and try to get extra walking in. You may find that you should have lost more the previous week, and it will show this week. Or at least you can limit the damage done by the binge. Anything between 0.5 to 2lbs a week is a healthy weight loss. My average is around 2lbs a week. Sometimes I can gain, sometimes a small loss and then other weeks a big loss. I don't do anything different to make such a difference to my weekly results. My body just doesn't always play ball on weigh in night. I know the plan works, it suits me and I know that I am making these changes as part of a long term lifestyle change. Whilst would love to have lost all my weight within a year, it is taking longer. It may take me two years, or even longer. What I do know is I am feeling so much better, fitter and healthier than I have felt for about 25 years, so that is what helps keep me going when the scales don't show the efforts. I have lost over 9st so far. I have to trust that what I am doing is right even if the result in the scales doesn't always reflect this. I have also focused on one small goal at a time, instead of looking at where I needed to end up. That looked like mission impossible when I rejoined last year. Stick with it and trust what you are doing. I have also had a time where I gained three weeks out of four, but despite those gains, I got into smaller trousers so I was getting smaller, but it just wasn't showing on the scales. Focus in your NSVs too (non scale victories).

Great post sez sounds like you’ve done brilliantly. You’re right about the non scale victories and having bigger loses the week after, because this week was the first work I physically felt that my stomach looked a bit smaller which was why I was so surprised with Just 1lb off ( & I also have a big amount to lose so for a body part to look smaller I would have expected a big amount off iykwim!)

I’m desperately trying to find my Fitbit so I can link it to my ww app, that’s the only way I’m really going to know if I’m doing enough to earn what I’ve binged on. I put it away somewhere ‘safe’ before the baby was born & im buggered if I can remember where that is. I think writing off the weeklies is the tip of the iceberg, I’m going to have to earn some serious fitpoints too to get that last lb off this week Grin in such a silly cow I can’t believe I did that. McDonald’s, chocolate trifle, Victoria sponge. At least my home made stew for dinner was fairly healthy lol

Great you found it! Get it linked up and then you can see what you are earning and what is available. If you can try to track what you binged on too, even if it puts you way over into negative points. You can at least then face a reality of what you need to earn back, or try to. stay positive. I really hope you get that 1lb you want this week, but, if you don't, stay on plan, you will get is soon!

Don't beat yourself up over what has happened either. Use it as an experience to learn from. Think about how you will deal with a disappointing result on the scales next time. Try to do things a little differently. Small steps in the right direction will get you there!

Have you taken measurements? I didn't do that until more recently. Now wish I had done it much earlier. I did start taking photos of myself (front, sides and back) about two weeks in and try to take them each month. Seeing a difference in the pics helps keep me motivated.

I know when we have loads to lose, the thought of losing 1lb a week is a bit depressing! When I rejoined I honestly didn't imagine I would be successful or get anywhere near as far as I have come already. But I did think if I could lose a couple of stone maybe and then maintain it for a while, that would be a start and be better than where I was, or worse, gaining more weight. Reaching those small goals seem achievable. Some have taken longer to reach than others, which has frustrated me on occasions!

There are some good FB support groups around too, which i find can help keep me motivated too. Sometimes just knowing we are not alone with our struggles on this journey, can help!

Woo I did it! Plus an extra lb for good luck Smile although I think this 2lbs actually came off last week but didn’t show because I’d had dinner & bottle of drink etc before I went to be weighed which I don’t usually do. So technically I think this week I’ve stayed the same and actually lost 3lb instead of 1lb last week... just from matching up wha other scales said compared to the ww scales. So Just goes to show I should sit down & think about things before I have my 4 year old style tantrum & eat everything I can find 😂 but who cares, I’ve finally reached my first stone!

Still loving everyone’s advice & kind words on this thread though so thank you! (Excuse my overly staged photo, it’s for my weight loss page lol)
