Anyone still doing old WW (Discovery Plan)? I'm combining it with 5:2.

Old WW worked well for me a few years ago (Discovery Plan) but then I fell off the wagon. 5:2 diet left me maintaining rather than losing weight because I went mad on my non-fast days. Ultimately as I retrain my appetite again I will hope to move more towards 5:2 but at the minute my diet generally is woeful.

So, cunning new plan is to combine both. I have 21 points a day (based on weight, age, lifestyle etc.). Rough plan is to have 2 very low point days (11), a few at 21, 1 on 23, 1 on 25 and 1 on 30. When I lost most weight last time it was when I 'Wendy-planned' as it was nicknamed - some low days and some high days. It seems to trick your metabolism, especially the very high point day. It's harder having fewer points now because of age but going to give it a shot!

Anyone else want to join me on the WW (old or new) / 5:2 combo? If not, I'll just talk to myself here :o

Spending this evening getting prepped. Going through the book making a list of my most frequent foods and their points. Also planning some meals and doing a shopping list for tomorrow. I have been feeling quite tired and thirsty recently so might need to get bloods done for diabetes. Another incentive to get my ass in gear!

Have my start weight but going to make Wed morning my weigh in morning. Will publish my weight loss here so I am accountable somewhere! Smile

Twenty points so far today (bear in mind this is old WW). My evening snack urge is kicking in but I am fighting it!

Started on Mon morning and just did my WI - 4lbs down! Probably the first week water loss but always a boost. Need it tbh - went to bed far too late last night and am shattered this morning. Usually this sends me running for the snacks. I must resist!

Unfortunately I have also dropped a point :(

A very low point day so far! Was busy this morning so skipped breakfast with ease, had delicious zero point soup for lunch with a mature cheddar toastie and then made a lovely pasta dish for dinner. I went a bit mad with the pasta but really enjoyed it and still have 5 points leftover. Having my skinny latte now. I love my evening skinny latte :o

Today's update! Breakfast: beans on 1 slice of toast with hot sweet chilli sauce to jazz it up. Lunch - stir fried veg and zero point soup. Dinner: chicken curry with naan, rice and peppers stirfried in mango chutney with lettuce. Yum yum. Yeo Valley Yoghurt after and I will have my skinny latte in a while. 5 points left over again. I really need to eat some to stop me undereating.

Well used up my points last night and have definitely gone over today as planned. My stomach has already shrunk and I couldn't finish lunch. Really stuffed myself at dinner should have stopped eating BUT I realised I was feeling stressed and that was why I kept eating. Luckily my Paul McKenna emotional eating book arrived this morning so hopefully I will crack that fairly soon!

Sat food: beans, cheese and chilli sauce on toast, second half of Chinese, skinny latte, four Lindt chocolates (which made me feel a bit sick!).

hi,
i have been doing weight watchers inconsistently since september and keep losing and putting weight on. i have now got to knuckle down and focus as I would like to lose 3 stone before my sons first birthday in July. I am tempted by the fast/5:2 but want to do ww aswell. how are you finding your fast days? what are you eating?

Hi Rachey on my 'fast' days I just have very low points. I am doing the old WW so my points are 21 a day. On FDs I simply have lower - around 14-16 at the minute but ultimately would like to get down to 10-12. The secret seems to involve being very well prepared. So protein for breakfast, a huge pan of zero point soup on standby for lunch and snacks and then a reasonable dinner with a skinny latte as my evening treat. I've had 3.5 points so far, will have zero point soup and then pasta with sauce for dinner and my latte. About 14-15 points as a daily total.

Time to pass go,
I don't know the old point system. But I'm allowed 29 a day a 49 weekly points. I'm just so fed up with weight watchers as this week I was so disappointed as stuck to my points did exercise every day and I only lost 1lb. I just don't get it. How is your weight loss going with the combination of both diets?

Hi time to pass, love your progress reports. Well done on the 4 pound loss. Week 1 of ww for me and stayed the same! Are you using old books etc to do the old system? Did you ever try the new one?

Hi, sorry, I'm on about 3 different threads. My WI was on Wed morning and I am 7 lbs down in 9 days :) Had a couple of low point days followed by an extremely high day today! Rachey are you having some high and some low point days? It seems to work better that way than having every day on the same points as your body just gets used to it. By constantly changing calories / point intake you keep your metabolism higher (I think that's the theory).

Miss I am still using my old stuff from a few years back so haven't tried the new system. I didn't like PP at all. The new one seems to have moved towards more of a slimming world type thing with some meat and carbs as free foods as well as fruit and veg.

7 pounds well done! That's a great start. I may try the different points in different day thing. With pp you get 26 per day then 49 for over the week which I like cos means you can have a wee meal out or a bit extra and it's counted in. This is my first week and only lost 1.5! Had totm so maybe that was whyHmm . Definitely making me eat better though, diet was terrible before!

Well my weekend so far has been 41 points, 25 points, 28 points. Back to low to normal points tomorrow. Today involved a huge roast dinner and a bacon and egg bap for tea :o

Ended up a bit over yesterday which was annoying. It is definitely unplanned lunches out that get me. Out today too so could be tricky.

time to pass, congratulations thats amazing result.

I am toying with the 5:2 diet just unsure of how to tackle the "fast" days.I do stick to my points and quite religious about sticking right within my points. Its weigh day tomorrow so fingers crossed I get a good result, if not I might be coping you on a hybrid diet :)

I was talking about the Wendy plan to my friend last week when she was telling me that 5:2 was bad and I mentioned that following the Wendy pattern on old WW worked for people who got stuck and that in effect it was 5:2!

Anyway, I started a thread asking if anyone had the Tasty and Low booklet from the 90's as there was a recipe that I wanted from it - I have started back with WW with the right mindset today (online member, can't face class as I'm now 2 stone heavier when I was at goal in 2011!)

I found my copy of Tasty and Low last night and made the Greek Potato Stew with a bit of added chicken. It's low in points and will be what I eat a lot of for the next few weeks to get my weightloss kick started. Let me know if you'd like me to post the recipe here. It will do for my lunch and tea, and comes to a total of 11 pro points (and would have been 8 if I had left out the 50ml of port that I like in it!)

I made half quantity, on old style points the whole recipe was 6.5 points, with 1.5 points per portion based on 4 servings.

I am in the States but in a similar situation. Here we had the original "Points" and then I lost 36 lbs. and they changed it to the "PointsPlus". I moved cross country straight after (3 years ago) and have since gained back about 12 lbs.

I have been up and down over the 3 years and I am committed to starting again using the original Points. I have my old calculator and have lost weight but now I'm older so my Points went down. Honestly it seems like I am starving some days. I am committed to trying again, and increasing my exercise from basically nothing to power walking three times a week. But it's discouraging. I have been on the plan for a week and no weight loss yet.

I have a squirrley scale though, so it really only tracks "trends"...I really need to stick on the plan and not weigh myself for a month and then I will see if I go down or up. But those little successes (losing) help you plough through, so I will miss that. Anyway, I know exactly how you feel!!

Hi I'm still here Smile Have been really busy this week but managed another lb off bringing my loss to 10lbs. The next couple of weeks will be a challenge because I am out and about all over the place and that's when my eating goes bad! Won't be surprised if I actually gain a few pounds back BUT this is where I am hoping the 5:2 mentality will help - tomorrow's another day not oh no I have failed my diet I might as well eat everything in sight! Wink

Library like you I am down points because I have crept into the older age bracket. My survival strategies are zero point soup and piles of veggies with everything. Some kind of protein at breakfast too. So instead of two pieces of toast I have one piece with scrambled egg or baked beans. I try to save most of my points for the evening so I can have a substantial evening meal and I have my nightly treat - a skinny decaff latte with cinnamon sprinkled on top. Low fat dairy is supposed to help your body excrete fat as well as being yum Smile
