Am thinking of joining Slimming World but don't want to stay to the meetings. I know I should and it's better if you do but I only get 2 evenings a week where I can get out of house without kids and I'd much rather spend them doing exercise (gym/running) than 'wasting' them at SW.

I was going to just go and get weighed every week.

However, am now thinking this is just stupid, to pay £4 just to get weighed. Surely I should have enough willpower to weight myself at home every week.

Anyone done it by themselves?

(i've got the book and diet and everything)

Give it a go. But to be honest it's something I say to myself but I really cannot do it without going along to the meetings. I even had the carrot of a lovely new O'neill hoodie that I've fallen in love with - I thought instead of paying to get weighed I'd put the money to one side towards the hoodie - but nope, still couldn't do it.

I'm back there for the 4th time (and really need to stay this time when I get to target).

I'm trying to do it by myself as I couldn't afford the meeting & finding a babysitter etc.

This is only my second week and it seems to be going OK. I think that it can be done but you would need to have the motivation & displine to stick to it... which I severely lack So whether I will actually lose any weight remains to be seen.

Good luck!

I have done it myself at home since May-have lost 2 stone 10lbs so far so it can be done.

At the end of the day even if you make it to meetings you are only letting yourself down if you dont lose weight when you want to-so you shouldnt need the ritual weekly humiliation of getting weighed in public!

I am the same as you-dont want to waste an evening at class plus I never found the class leaders particularly helpful or useful.

Use the online food diary etc if you can/want to-I have found that v helpful.

Tullytwo, you would need the password to access the online diary won't you?

How can you get the password if you don't go to the meetings?

I go to get weighed, but dont stay for the meetings. Have been doing it for 5weeks (6 if you count my first WI.......scary time that was!!)

i like going along as it gives me the motivation to keep eating healthily and not jsut 'forget' about it. I paid for 12weeks membership in advance, so if i dont go im wasting money i already paid out. when my 12wks is up in dec ill sign up for another 12, then hopefully be clsoer to my goal and then once ive hit target ill go every couple of weeks to maintain.

hope it goes well for you xxx

I'm doing it on my own - one week in and a loss of 1 1/2lbs. Have quite the incentive though, as would like to lose at least half a stone before an operation at the beginning of December. I've tried to do it this way before, but been less committed. For me, it's my own head that makes the difference, not the group weigh-in.

I find the extra easy really good. Also, this time I have determined to stick to a weekly weigh-in. (No daily self-congratulatory or consoling treats... )

I go every week but never stay to the meetings (they always ask!!). The meetings are too long for me and a bit boring. It does seem silly to pay for just the weigh in, bit I find that it gives me that extra discipline to be good all week in preparation for the weigh in.
If you think you can do it on your own and if you have the stuff, give it a try, you have nothing to lose and can always join later if it doesn't work. They do an online version which might be worth a look.
I went it alone in the past and went to Boots once a week on the same day and used their scales and that was my weigh in.

I'm doing it on my own and have lost half a stone so far. The first time I did it online so I feel confident that I'm familar enough with Sw to make it work.

Have a look on the Sw thread on here. It is V supportive.

good luck.
