I have the typical FBG female line shape. I need to loose 1-2 stone. I can't really change my shape but do want to change my weight. I think doing a DVD at home is the way for me to start and I need suggestions please.

TIA.

Actually to lose weight the first place to start is to look at what you are eating. Doing exercise by itself will rarely help you lose weight. Exercise is very important however and if you don't want to join a gym or start running etc than an exercise DVD at home is the next best thing, but sorry dont have any recommendations for those.

I can't eat any less. So I feel exercise is what I have to start doing properly.

You can change your shape. Regular aerobic exercise will do that. Can't recommend any DVDs as I don't use them but I do recommend running. Start off with small distances and build up.

I recommend the Davina McCall DVDs - though this is a personal choice; everyone seems to like something different. I also really enjoy the Zoe Lucker Little Black Dress workout. Might be worth buying a couple of cheap ones off ebay and see what suits. I hear the Claire from Steps one is good - if you can bear the soundtrack.

Don't be taken in by those 'busy mum' ones that promise great results in 10 minutes a day. You really need more aerobic exercise than that each day to help with weight loss.

Good luck

In a normal day I have lunch and dinner but breakfast probably half the week or I have it mid morning as I just can't eat at 7 and then it is a crazy 2 hours to get the kids to school.

I have food issues but really want to crack them and have a normal relationship with food.

If you actually can't eat any less you might actually not be eating enough. There is also a fab coach potato to 5K running thread in Sports and Exercise which I heartily recommend.

I think you would need to search ebay but I would recommend getting a step. I got one with a few videos to go with it.. really helped.. everyone remarked how great I looked

good luck

A step sounds like me. I used to do step aerobics in my previous childfree life.

Can be useful if you normally have problems doing crunches, but may end up being a piece of clutter in your house. I have seen so many of these covered in dust round various friends' homes.

I agree with elvis.. dust collector I'm afraid

I think either you are a sit up person or you're not and if you're not buying this isnt going to make you one!

I would do sit ups but need something tohelp me and this looked ideal.

Where can I get a step from and I still need an idea for a DVD to exercise along with?

I've not done step aerobics, but can recommend the DVDs I mentioned earlier.

Steps are available from around £30 on Amazon. It's also the kind of thing that is advertised a lot in the classifieds of the local paper.

Loads of Step DVDs here

FBG, there's one of those in my loft, one in my best friends and another one in another friends. I wouldn't recommend it.

The gym isn't such a scary place, it's generally got slightly rounder ladies(like us) in it during the day whilst the kids are school. I find actually going somewhere, purposely to do exercise, is more likely to make me do it rather than staying at home to exercise where it's more likely I'll find something else much more important to do like colour code DP shirts, vital when the other option is keeping up with some bitch who is already thinner and more toned than me on a damn DVD.

If you want to tone up yoga is a great way to do it. I got a Barbara Currie video after ds2 and did her 10 minute session every day. It wasnt long before I looked like I had lost weight even though I hadnt because I was holding myself differently without thinking about it. It also helped my back which was quite painful before I started.

Have you seeen www.foodfocus.co.uk. Its free and you can log what you are eating which can really help you identify where your calories are being spent and when you know that you can swap little things that make a difference. I think there is a foodfocsu appreciation thread on here

My DS has got a Wii fit programme and whereas computer games leave me cold and am getting addicted to it! It is fun. It weighs you and tells you your BMI and will give a physical age based on tests. On a good day I was 10yrs younger, on a bad day I was 66yrs!!
You can do aerobic exercise, yoga, muscle workouts and balance games. I find it better than a DVD because you get feedback-it will tell me off today because I missed yesterday!

I am back from shopping and in the whole centre there was 2 exercise dvds. One was a 10 minute one so I left that as per ELE's advice and got the other one which is Claire from Steps.

I will also look at the foodfocus thing.

Atm one week I can be a certain weight saying I have lost 4-6 pounds and the next week some back on again. I don't understand it tbh as I don't do a lot different.

DH has offered to buy me a Wii, piscesmoon, but it is a bit much money for us atm.

I got suggested to do a pilates course to fix some muscle imbalance-pain thingy by a wise MNetter. Done some research and it is supposed to be good at retraining you shape wise whilst being low impact. Consider a once weekly class to get over can't be bothered to exercise today thing (personally very guilty at this )

By the way you can gain up to a stone during your cycle and you can get alot of weight quickly just by drinking a lot (its why they monitor fluid intake of anarexics) or being consipated. If it makes you feel any better.

Exercising is important to tone you up, but you can also reduce the calorie content of your food without changing the amount of food you eat, by changing what you actually eat.

Make sure that at least 1/3 of your plate is filled with veg/salad, snack on fruit, cut all fat/skin off your meat, eat low fat dairy, and small portions of wholemeal carbs. If there is any food you just can't do without e.g. crisps, chocolate then incorporate a small amount of this food into your eating plan each day (e.g. snack size choc bar, low fat crisps, small glass wine). That way you don't feel like you are depriving yourself.

Good luck!
