When I was 40 my BMI crept up tooverweight and I watched calories, plus got into running and my weigh crashed off. I then had to spend years eating to maintain a BMI of 20. About three years ago, weight started to creep on. I have been blaming hrt so have ditched this. Now I am sweaty, exhausted and STILL the weight creeps on. A tiny bit a week. I am too poor tobuy a whole new wardrobe!!!!I do exercise, probably more than average...and eat lots of fruit and veg....do I have to get super restrictive for a while/ forever and avoid sugary stuff for THE REST OF MY LIFE??? OMG DEPRESSING

I think sugar is most definitely the culprit sadly.

Yup me too. If I had my diet and fitness levels of now, twenty years ago I would have been emaciated in my 30s. I am cutting down my portions and still no weight loss. Last time I was this weight I was pregnant. I am trying to embrace it but sooo scared I will end up a round middle-aged woman.

Yes. My weight has always been fairly stable but if I did put a few pounds on, over Christmas or a holiday, for example, a couple of weeks being "good" and it would soon be back to normal.

I'm 50 this month and I'm carrying 3lbs that I just can't shift, despite running more than ever (lockdown) and having cut out sugar and snacking altogether. In fact, if anything weight is still increasing.

The only other thing to go is wine, but I only drink about 1.5 bottles a week, which is only 900 calories, so it's not going to change the world.

Thing is with fruit is it’s now been cultivated to be extra sweet. Fruit didn’t used to taste so good. Lots of berries were bitter. Now we have a year round variety of high sugar fruits to choose from. That’s why you can’t go scoffing fruit and thinking it has huge health benefits. It has some vitamins and fibre but so does lots of other food that won’t impact your insulin.

Yeah I love my fruit. I try and stick to 3 portions a day. If I go too bland in my diet then I obsess about junk and then I binge. I want to find a healthy and balanced approach to staying slim.
