Super size v super skinny - 2000cal recommendation

I'm just watching super size v super skinny on Amazon prime.

Season 3, episode 3 - woman is 5'4. Her tube says she eats 1,500cal a day, she should be eating 2,000 and that's why she's loosing weight.

Surely she must be eating less and 2,000 can't be the real amount she needs? Right?

I'm confused
Why would she not need 2000?

Depending on activity, 2000 cals is a perfectly normal daily requirement for women. Doesn’t seem odd to me.

I love that show! Didn't know it was on prime, thank you.

I would definitely gain weight on 2000 cals a day and I do a lot of exercise!

I love watching this show and secret eaters on YouTube. It really helps me with my eating habits!

turnoff well everyone is different. I am losing 1-2 lb a week eating over 1700 so I am pretty sure that 2000 would be an adequate amount for me to maintain weight and that’s what I will do when I reach my goal. Maybe they calculated the contestant’s calorie requirement from her height and activity level? In any event, she clearly wasn’t getting enough because nearly all the super skinnies on that programme are clinically underweight.

justanotherneighinparadise me too! grin

She was only 5'4. I guess she could have been doing lots of exercise to make the 2,000 the right recommendation. I thought they were lying about how much was in her tube, like maybe it was only 1,000 calories of the 1700 she needed (say) and they wiggled the figures to stick with 'general public recommendations'

Calorie requirements depend on age too. The younger you are, the more you need to maintain.

True. To be fair, I am sometimes surprised when they say some person is only getting say 1600 cals a day and all that’s in their feeding tube is coffee and half a sandwich. But maybe they’re not wanting to highlight extreme undereating because I think that show is potentially triggering to those with eating disorders.
