6 stone to lose - Noom?

LittleScottish · 16/09/2019 19:06

Have just signed up to Nooms free trial.

I need to lose 6 stone, and I need something to help me tackle my emotionally driven bingeing.

The vast majority of online reviews are really positive for Noom, but has anyone had experience of losing a significant amount of weight with it?

If so, what did you lose and how long did it take you? xx

My sister lost around this amount, hers was all emotionally driven due to deep unhappiness. She had drastic changes in her life that was the real change more so than her diet really because then she stopped eating too much.

I've started exante
I have 5 stone to lose now that I've lost 1 stone in the last 4 weeks.

It's really easy now I'm used to it.

I have wondered about noom? But there are others also. Have you seen the Cinderella diet? (Possibly not a diet!)

Good luck in your weight loss? I too need to lose it!

I’ve lost just over 6 kg with Noom since July. It’s great, so long as you properly engage with it. :)

OP I would highly recommend Exante. Have a look at the facebook group, quite a few people have lost 10 stone in a year! I lost 9lbs in my first week.

What's Exante?

I've done Cambridge and Exante, and lost all the weight, but its crept back on over the last 4 years as I have always gone back to my crappy eating habits.

I'm hoping Noom will help me break the cycle and make better choices.

The app reckons I can lose my 6 stone within 8 months, so we'll see!

Just a heads up. If you cancel your subscription during your Noom trial they will offer you a massively reduced rate.

Tried Cambridge. Lost a ton of weight and ended up piling it all back on again. Recently bought a 28-day pack of bodypow. So far lost a stone in a little over a week yet still eating what I like, just less of it. Noom kind of looks as though i'd have to commit to a complete lifestyle change. I'm not down for that kind of commitment right now.

I looked into Noom and there was no way I could afford it. Otherwise it looked good.

Part of my problem is I'm depressed and this has worsened over the years as my physical conditions have worsened and left me unable to work. I am trying to look into where might employ me a few hours a week - hard because of my needs.

About an hour and a half ago I signed up to a local gym and leisure centre. Wish me luck, I have 6 - 6 1/2 stone to lose too.

I think I'll be using this part of the forum more.

My ds is 16. Last March, the day before his 15th birthday. he started SW. He’s 6ft 2 and was always a big lad but his eating had got out of control after being bullied.

Anyway, he lost 6st in a year. He’s verging on having an eating disorder :( is miserable and obsessed and it’s almost as if he’s afraid to eat.
I’ve banned him from going back to SW classes and have been educating him on different foods and plans, rather than being so rigid.

I worry about a huge weight loss like his because I think once you start to entertain anything remotely “naughty” you’re very prone to putting it back on.

I don’t know what the answer is but ds’s best friend actually told him he was much happier when he was bigger and it’s probably true :(

Good luck with your diet.

My use of it had dwindled but I have lost 1.5 st with it which is the most I've ever lost purposefully so I do think it works. It helped me understand the science of weight loss

I ate a lot thinkin it wasn't enough to put on weight but I got proven wrong by noon and taught to make better choices.

Good luck on your journey!!

I have done Noom and lost 20lbs, which was what I was hoping for.

It’s basically calorie counting and categorises foods red/amber/green based on how calorie dense they are, with suggestions of eating more of the green category to feel satisfied, no more than X calories a day of amber and Y of red foods etc. This was v useful - the categories and copies of lists of foods in them can be found online for free.

It doesn’t directly talk about binge eating. I mentioned this in my goals and to them but there was no response at all. I found sime of the tips useful for it though.

There are several daily articles about science, psychology, tips, quiz, exercises. These seem evidence based and have lots of useful tips, but are heavy going IMO. I didn’t do the exercises and the reading alone still took around 15 mins a day.

The “goal coach” essentially just tells you to set goals, responds to every Q with (paraphrasing) “what will you do about that?” Or “how can you do X?” found it mechanistic.

The group sections had v few posts in it, I was hoping to like this bit but didn’t find that element at all useful due to the low “traffic”.

For me what made a difference was the food info, food logging, some of the tips, and making time (daily whenever poss) for food prep and planning.

An option could be to find the red/amber/green food lists etc online and log food on My Fitness Pal, which is free and has a bigger database. And seek reading and podcasts on tips and binge eating, eg Gillian Reilley, Brain Over Binge.
