Morning all!
So Monday I weighed myself and did the bmi and I'm obese on the bmi chart, I'm 12 stone and my pre pregnancy weight was 9stone 12 lbs I'd like to lose 2 stone but I have no will power, I eat unhealthily, part of that is comfort eating ( going through a break up ) the other part is i don't actually know what's really healthy etc.
So I guess I'm really looking for a kick up the bum and some motivation to get out and exercise, and some meal ideas if anyone has any that would be great!!
I'm a vegetarian and the main food people suggest is quorn which doesn't agree with me at all, also I wondered how much exercise you should get in a day to loose weight and what time scale to lose 2 stone, and the last thing is anyone in the same situation feel free to join me in this hopeful weight loss :-)

Do you eat eggs?

I am also losing weight. I'm eating a lot of egg white omelettes with veg like peppers and broccoli thrown in.

You can buy cartons of egg whites.

I basically make sure at least 60% of any meal is veg.

So veg rice, mixed with peas, carrot, peppers, whatever veg you like. Same with pasta. For pasta sauces I usually roast a few
Different types of tomatoes and then blitz in the food processor and add herbs or chilli and season.

If I do a stir fry I use fry lite.

If you avoid prossesed sauces and make your own and freeze them, this is a good way to become healthier.

Homemade curry sauces are usually
Just onion and tomatoes with various spices.

Works for me.

Also I've been having lo dough to make pizzas. If you use reduced calorie grated
Cheese and veg for the topping you can make a pizza for about 300 calories.

I have this a lot.

Maybe give us a sample day of what you normally eat and we can suggest changes?

You lose weight by eating keto (harder to do on a veggie diet but still possible), which means consuming a high fat (eggs, avocado, olives, cheeses alongside veg and low carb fruit like berries) and low carb diet. If this is too restrictive at least cut down your carb intake (bread, pasta, rice etc) x

Thankyou for your replies!! I do like eggs so will try to have more of those for protein.
My usual day on a good day is like this -
Glass of chocolate milk and biscuits or chocolate for breaskfast
Lunch will be pasta sweetcorn and triple the amount of cheese I need,
Dinner would be 2 jacket potato's again way too much cheese and beans
And throughout the day I wouldn't think anything of finishing a litre of chocolate milk, crisps and an Easter egg to myself !
Just a brief idea but I think personally that is awful!! Xx

Maybe switch to chocolate soya milk?

Swap the biscuits for an alternative on "slimmingeats"

Google that online and the website offers loads of decent sweets you can make but lower fat.

I was in a very similar situation at the start of the year. I had a terrible diet, no energy, felt shit about myself and was also in the obese category.

12 weeks later, I’m a different person. I’ve lost just under one and a half stone and 4 inches off my waist. So it’s possible to change and see results pretty fast!

I’ve been following the NHS 12 week weight loss plan, which is a pretty sensible plan that teaches you about healthy eating at the same time. You can find it here:

www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-weight/start-the-nhs-weight-loss-plan/

The most surprising thing for me was that after the first 10 days, it became a very easy diet to follow. Which is just as well, as I’ll need to be on it a bit longer before I am a healthy weight.

I recommend that, with whatever diet you choose, you find things to keep you distracted over those first few weeks and especially around times when you normally snack.

Also plan little (non food!) rewards to get you through those first few weeks.

Finally, try not to focus too much on where you want to be. Losing two stone can feel like an impossible task, but losing 1 or 2 lbs a week sounds totally doable. Both will get you to exactly the same end point eventually.

Oh, and the exercise bit is kind of optional. It’s unlikely to contribute loads to your weight loss, but could help to make you feel a lot better very quickly. It doesn’t have to be strenuous. I aim for about a half an hour walk each day.

Phew, that turned into a pretty long post. But in summary, you can totally do this, if you want to!

It’s definitely doable. I was 11.7 over the summer - now 9.12.
Most of this is attributable to low carb high fat. I started cutting back on carbs in Sept and got down to 10.11, the rest is since Jan going more hardcore on the Low Carb Bootcamp.

I notice you’re using food as a comfort. That was me🙋🏻‍♀️. If you’re prepared to take the step away from using food in this way, Low Carb High Fat could help you because it gets rid of cravings. However it requires that you give up sugar/grains/potatoes/ completely. The idea is to break the addiction. I can honestly say I don’t care about sugar or bread any more. The cravings have gone. The only thing is miss is poppadums!

I didn’t want to give up my comfort foods but I now look elsewhere for treats eg time alone or some trashy magazines. Food isn’t a drug but many of us are self medicating with it.

When I made the commitment to eliminate sugar completely etc I made sure we didn’t have any temptations around the house
You plan every meal so there’s no chance to cheat
You start off eating three meals a day but I now only eat two most days as I’m not hungry. So you’d have a filling breakfast eg an omelette.
You start off very low carb which puts you in fat burning mode-this is called Keto if you google it there’s lots of info
Eating high fat is very filling and I put lots of butter/fat on my veg eg greens mixed with Boursin.
Low fat foods are banned
Within a short period of time the cravings for sugar are gone or very much manageable
I honestly couldn’t care less about sugar any more. And I was obsessed with ice cream

Like Siameasy I've also quite the junk food. I cannot eat chocolate or cake or sweets or even bread in moderation. Instead I quit it completely as I was addicted. These days I usually don't have breakfast. Have some fruit mid morning and then a decent lunch which is usually lentils or beans with lots of veg and a bit of cheese followed by more fruit. Evening meal tends to be lots of stir fried vegetables or roast Vegetables with maybe a bit of chicken or cheese. I usually have a pudding maybe some berries or some peanuts. Then I do not eat again that evening and I haven't been tempted either. Make your meals delicious and cut the refined carbohydrates and your taste buds really start to appreciate healthy food.

You have an emotional attachment to food and you need to use something else (something you don’t put into your body) to soothe yourself when you are upset. You’re misusing food. It’s not a drug to make you feel better because that way trouble lies!!!

I’m not being intentionally mean - I totally totally get this mindset because it used to be me but you must find something else to help you emotionally
