How long to keep your larger clothes?

How long before you get rid of them or do you keep them?

It's hard for me to get rid of them when I remember how hard it is to find stuff when you are bigger.

One of the joys of losing weight is the greater choice of clothes (and I’m soneone who’s never been that interested in fashion, I usually buy from charity shops and am happy with warm and comfy). Personally, when I lost enough to comfortably wear smaller sizes I immediately got rid of the larger ones because I think it’s pribably easier to slip back into bad habits and let things slide if you know you have larger sizes lurking in the wardrobe. Well done though, what a nice dilemma to have.

Thanks for the reply @JRMisOdious

What if I put the weight on again? It's so hard to find clothes when your bigger! I'm an awkward shape too.

I've also spent a life time overweight so not sure if I'll keep it off.

I would bin them as soon as you are comfortable in the smaller size. It may be easier to keep it off if you know you have to buy a whole new wardrobe if you put on again xxx

I get rid of my big clothes as soon as they become too big. But my big clothes are all fairly cheap high street stuff as I never intended to stay big - and I guess I was also punishing myself for letting myself get big by wearing frumpy clothes I hated. I love clothes and fashion but have stuck to investing in good shoes, bags, scarves and jewellery while I've been fat.

I did keep a few of my nice clothes from when I was slim and it's fabulous being able to get back into some of them. Although some I may never get back into as I was far too thin years ago (Gucci leather jacket, I'm looking at you!) and I don't want to get that thin now I'm older as it'll make me look haggard.

I yo-yo a lot. It takes very little to lead me down the path to perdition. So I keep some, and only stuff 1 size up especially the items that are difficult to find...in my case jeans. But they are solidly tucked away, or a really nice dress or two that might suit altering??

Keep just two nice/versatile outfits one size up. That way, as soon as you hit that size again, you have a limited wardrobe and incentive to get back on track.

Keep the clothes you really like, but in a vac pack bag out of sight (in the loft?). Bin everything else.

I could have written hundredmiles post! I kept a few select items from when I was thin and it does feel good getting back into them as I have lost nearly 3 stone so far (and i am too worried that I'm going to start looking haggard before i reach my goal weight!) But actually most of them just look weird now anyway- wrong shape, unfashionable, weird fit! So I try them on, feel good that they fit and then throw them away!

In terms of clothes that become too big, I am being ruthless and throwing them away once they start to look odd/fall down. Mainly so I can make room in my wardrobe for new stuff...shopping is so much more enjoyable these days SmileWink

I kept one of my size 20 work suits - as a reminder of things past - and gave all the rest away.

I'm not planning on needing them again. Ever Blush

As someone who works with poverty relief charities, just a quick reminder that clothes of all sizes are always needed somewhere. I'm sure all these references to "binning" are just casual turns of phrase and everything is actually bagged up for the local chazza, but please - make your weight loss journey part of someone else's battle to keep their head above water.

Definitely - by binning I mean donating Smile
