Dieting/exercise for a fat stomach

MaryPlain59 · 13/08/2018 09:54

I have gradually put on weight on my stomach over the years and realise I do need to address it now. I have looked up many different diets but am confused about the best thing to do for this target area, can anyone advise me please?

You don't/can't target any area for fat loss. You just maintain a calorie deficit (ie eat fewer calories than you use) until all the fat is gone.

What kind of diet you choose is irrelevant, you just need to maintain a calorie deficit.

What kind of exercise you do is also irrelevant. Exercise for weight loss is simply to do with increasing your calorie deficit.

Everyone carries their fat in different places. Some have an even spread of fat, some have fat hips, far thighs, fat face or whatever. It happens you carry your fat around the middle (which happens to be the most unhealthy place in terms of your heart health). I also carry disproportionate amounts of excess weight around my waist. It's a bummer.

You just have to lose weight, so consume fewer calories than you use, until it's gone.

Instead of using your weight as a scald to measure your progress, perhaps use your measurements? Your height to waist ratio (waist divided by height) should be under 0.5 to be healthy. Your hip to waist ratio (waist divides by hip) should be under 0.85
