Newbie here- be gentle, why am I thinking of food all the time?

I am trying to lose a bit of weight- not much 10 pounds or so- I have never been on a diet before, so I thought if I cut down for a month I could lose it.
But I seem to be obsessed by thinking about food?
WTF is going on?
I am not normally like this- but I find myself thinking about food all the time. Is this normal?
I am not an emotional eater- in fact the opposite, my appetite shrinks in response to stress or worry.
In the past year or so I have been at home a lot ( caring) and eating too much through the day.

So I have just had a banana for breakfast- but secretly thinking about bacon butties.

Lol. Yup this happens. Perhaps try planning out your food for the day so your brain knows what it's going to get and factor in a small treat. That way you're less likely to obsess and if your trying to be "good" it takes the stress out of what to eat when you're stood in front of the fridge or cupboard. Good luck 🙂

Very normal. Your body is quite happy as it is and your brain is trying to overrule your wish to lose weight. It goes back to when we were hunter gatherers and life was usually feast or famine. Carrying a few extra pounds was good as when the next famine stage came along you had reserves to fall back on.

A banana is healthy yes but also high in sugar. Healthy sugars but your body willl still treat it as sugar. It’s why tennis players etc eat them at Wimbledon. A fast burst of energy. But then your blood sugars crash quite quickly. Leaving you dreaming of bacon butties!

Adding some full fat greekyoghurt and a sprinkle of flaked almonds would be a better breakfast. Or have eggs on whole grain toast.

Hello fellow newbie.
I totally relate to what you're saying. I feel like I've spent most of my adult life on one diet or another. I've tried every diet there is and they all have one thing in common...........they all make you obsess about food!
As a result of years of yo-yo dieting I have a very unhealthy relationship with food. It's my crutch when I'm down and I celebrate with food when I'm happy. I wake up thinking about food and that's what I think about throughout the day. I'm under a lot of stress due to family problems and I use food as a distraction.
Please don't focus too much on losing the weight. Take it steady, be healthy and don't deprive yourself too much. Have the odd treat and most importantly never, ever feel bad about it. I have such feelings of guilt around food and it's not healthy. Food is there to be enjoyed, enjoy it.......within reason!
All the best and I hope you reach your goal weight
