I'm 3 stone heavier than I was before I had my 1st baby. I was a healthy slim weight and size 10 - 12 before my first pregnancy. That was 5 years ago now. In that time I've had a second baby too. I didn't feel like addressing my weight for a long time after they were born, I was too busy looking after them and too happy in my own little world with them. Now I'm a size 16 and I want to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight/size.
My nearest and dearest have started dropping hints about my weight! I was talking about needing to buy a wrist watch, and my brother said "I think you need to get yourself a fitbit watch!". Then when we had a heatwave earlier this week I got stressed because all my summer clothes are too small and my husband said "well it's time you did something to get back in to them then!!". Now today my mother has given me a lecture about how it's time I started ''looking after myself properly'' and came round with a nutri-bullet and told me to start using it!
So after all these comments I'm feeling paranoid that I must look awful and hadn't realised.
So can any of you lovely mumsnet mums offer any advice on weight loss? Never had to lose weight before and feel overwhelmed by the thought of it. Cannot consider a no-carb approach, I would go mad without healthy carbs (jacket potato, brown rice, etc.)
How long will it take to lose 3 stone? Are slimming groups any good?
Thank you for any replies.

Hello :)

We're all in the same boat here.
There's lots of ways to do it, you need to find a way that works for you. I have 3 stone to lose, and I haven't had any children, I just like to eat! Putting on weight is easy, eating too much and not doing enough exercise to burn it off.
You could try my fitness pal and couch to 5k which is what I'm using, but I needed a buddy and to be accountable to someone so the forums here really help (I'm only three days in!)
Slimming world and weight watchers some people find successful (both my best friends have lost 12 stone and 4 stone respectively with slimming world so it must work!)
Try not to think of it as a diet or you will be denying yourself and end up binging.
Oh, and drink plenty of water.
you'll find plenty of support here OP and I'm sure someone who is not as fat or as new to this dieting business as me knows what they're talking about will be along shortly!

If you can't do without carbs I'd thoroughly recommend slimming world. I lost just over 1.5 stone in 8 weeks. It's really easy to follow and I actually find myself eating more than before.

I just followed the online plan but many find the group helpful.

Hi fedup First of all, I think your family, especially your DH should butt out! If you want to lose weight for yourself, then great, but they shouldn't be 'dropping hints' about you needing to lose weight. No wonder you're feeling fed up, I would too!

Now to answer your question - I've recently lost a stone in 6 weeks, and have about another 10lbs to go, and have done it via Freedom Diet Coach (there's a thread on here about it). It doesn't exclude any food groups (eg carbs - I hear ya on not being able to function without them!) and is a really sensible and sustainable diet plan. I also found the 1-2-1 support really useful at keeping me on track.

Good luck in finding something that works for you, then you can tell your mum where to stick her nutribullet Wink
