how did you lose and keep weight off?

Just this really. I'm really struggling to lose weight and keep it off. My metabolism isn't what it used to be and I have lost weight by cutting down calories, but it has taken some serious calory cutting to get there, even though my job is fairly active. I have struggled keeping the weight off too.
What's your secret?

Cutting right down on carbs. 20g or less a day and tracking on my fitness pal. Upped my protein and fat intake. Lost 87lbs and have maintained for nearly a year. First few weeks were tough and after that it was much easier to ignore the bread.
