Large weight loss motivation

Queenofthesilverdollar · 11/06/2016 23:09

Have got to lose approx 7 stone. Need some motivation, am fed up with reading stuff where people give up a diet of 5 bacon butties for breakfast, Maccy d for lunch - gone large obviously, kebab for tea with cream cakes, full fat coke throughout the day... I don't and never have eaten like that, obviously I eat too much but I do eat healthy food. I would love to read some motivational stuff of people who have lost weight that I could relate too a bit more

I started off with 5 stone to lose before becoming normal BMI and I've lost almost half of that since January. Like you I ate pretty healthily, but probably had too many 'odd treats' and maybe my portion size was too big. I have overhauled my eating. I'm breastfeeding so am having 2000 kcal a day, and aiming for under 40% carbs. I track everything on my fitness pal. I eat plenty of healthy fats (eggs, avocado, oily fish, olive oil), lean protein (chicken, fish) and wholegrain/wholefood carbs. I avoid sugar, white carbs and saturated fat completely.

I also swim 3 times a week.

I feel better than I have done in years!!!!

I should lose six stone to be a weight the NHS would like, except that I haven't been that weight since the eighties. It's a figure that's too big for me to get behind so I'm aiming for a smaller one which will make me merely overweight rather than obese. I have a two year plan and I'll get there with a weight loss of less than half a pound a week. It's a nice small weekly target that felt that I could achieve that within my current levels of fitness. Why now? I twisted my knee getting out of the car and it's not getting better. It doesn't take years of medical training to work out that the best thing I can do for it is to take some of the weight off it.

In the first three weeks I have lost half a stone rather than the pound and a half I was aiming for and I can already feel the difference going upstairs. Everything that goes in my mouth goes on MyFitnessPal and I bought a step counter that links to MFP. The weight didn't go on overnight and it won't come off overnight - don't think about losing seven stone, think about losing two pounds. Set yourself small targets that you can win at and think about why you want to lose the weight.

I need to lose 5st as a minimum - 6/6.4 would be better - so far I'm 12lb down and 4 weeks in :)

Well done, you are all doing so well. I want to lose approximately 3 stone. I am so disgusted with myself for letting things get this bad. I have a problem with binge eating. I started my diet on 7 May. So far, I have lost 11 pounds in about 5 weeks.
I saw a photo of myself on facebook today- one of my friends had tagged me. I was so upset. I look awful and that was taken after I had already lost about 8 pounds. My worst areas are arms, thighs, stomach and legs. So yeah, most of it then. I know I just have to carry on, but it feel so hard some days.

thisisafakename I know it's hard but try not to feel disheartened ... Exactly the same thing happened to me last week - I had lost 9lb and went out feeling rather pleased and saw a photo and I look my worst Sad

However - I'm now 12lb down and yesterday I had my first " have you lost weight?" - spurred me on!

Imnotaceleb thank you, that's so kind of you and that really helps. Well done on getting the weight loss comments too. I can't wait for that to happen. I can't really tell much difference in the mirror but I reckon once I get past a stone, it must start to show. I was 13 st 7.5 to start off with. Losing 3 stone would put me in 'normal' BMI (I was obese to start off with Blush ). But ideally I guess another stone would be good, meaning a 4 st weight loss overall. But that just seems like a crazy amount so I prefer to have smaller goals.

I, like you, need to lose about seven stone and like you, I don't have a junk filled diet (it happens now and again, but I can hand on heart say I only eat chocolate every few months or so, occasional bag of crisps and the odd take away). Eat healthy food, love a nice salad but have horrendous portion control and way to many carbs.

I also can't think about losing the whole seven stone so am breaking it down into smaller goals. I have some clothes that are the next that are the next size down and I used to be able to fit into so am aiming to back into those by my holiday in 5 weeks - a stone and a half should do it and I've already lost 4 pounds.

I'm also trying to be mindful about my emotional triggers and am trying to work mentally and emotionally on my relationship with food in general as I'm positive that that is where the true transformation needs to take place for me.

thisisafakename - your current weight would put me halfway to my target ish! I work In Pounds and I'm currently 224lb Blush

But it's 12lb less than when I started. That's what I remind myself of daily....

It may only be 15min exercise - its 15 mins more than yesterday :)

Imnotaceleb yes, definitely 12 pounds less than where you started! You can do it! I think that when you have a large amount of weight to lose, it seems so daunting. My first goal was to get out of the obese range- don't think I have ever wanted to be in the 'overweight' category this much ever before! Another pound or so and I will be at the very top end of 'overweight'.
Part of this also means controlling my binge eating. I would eat healthy for a few days but then have a large takeaway pizza and a tub of ice cream as a 'treat'. Except then it would mess with my blood sugar and the next day I would wake up craving carbs and have another binge day. I have had this problem for a long time but it's only in the past few years that it has massively caught up with me and resulted in significant weight gain.
In terms of exercise I am trying to do 10,000 steps a day. I have a pedometer with an app and it sends you disappointed messages if you don't hit target!

korma, that is amazing weight loss by the way. I thought about joining a slimming group and went to WW for a couple of weeks but hated the weigh-in and I normally weigh myself in the morning as my weight fluctuates during the day and the meetings were after dinner (7.30 pm) so I felt gutted when it was 5 pounds more than I thought. Also HATED the points- such a faff and I couldn't get on with it at all. Maybe SW would suit me better and the SW meeting is 2 miles away so I could walk there and back and it would help me reach my steps.

I was the same re binging / treat days! I have 0 willpower so I've committed to a month of the same meals every day - that way I know exactly what I'm eating. I have deviated twice - but within calorie limit :) I've found my fitness pal app really useful

Korma - well done that's great. Some years ago I managed to put weight on on SW when they changed to Extra easy. But a friend has just started so I might have another look

Have only lost 3 stone myself, but can I just say for everyone who says they look at pictures and think they look worse even though the scales say they are losing weight, that they are probably losing visceral fat (the nasty stuff surrounding your organs) first! And while that's the most important fat to lose, it's also the one that shows the least.

I always find that I look better when the scales actually say I'm up a couple of pounds, and worse when it's gone lower (and yes, my weight fluctuate by the day, but generally I go for a steadily moving down even with the odd jumps up).

I echo what others have said about setting small goals. My next goal is to be 14st 1 which takes me to a BMI of 29.9 (overweight and no longer obese!). Only 1.5 pounds to go. Then there'll be another goal of about 7 pounds (I was 13st 8 when I got pregnant with my first so that's as good as any!), etc, etc.

Wow! Nantucket. Very impressive. Do you have a maintenance plan for when you get to goal? How are you feeling? Have you had any issues with loose skin? (My fear).

Everyone is doing really well. Congratulations to all of you! xxx

I went from 16st 12 to 10st 3 though didn't and exercise. I didn't eat a ridiculous amount of food ever, the gain was slow and steady. The main thing I found that helped my weight loss was exercise. Hillwalking and running. I couldn't run 5 yards when I started couch to 5k but after 6 months I could run 10k in under an hour.

Posted too soon last post.

I'm on the weight loss wagon again after having my son. I've got less than a stone to go (out of 3). I've done slimming world this time and I'd highly recommend it. I've lost just over 2 stone in 9 weeks.
