I started a thread about 3 weeks ago commenting that I had let myself go a bit and my face was looking chubby. I was going on holiday and was feeling self conscious about having my photo taken.

Holiday is tomorrow. I have just been to my local salon to get my eyebrows done.

As I was leaving, my beautician asked me if I had put on weight as face was looking puffy. She wasn't being snide or mean. Her English isn't great so she is quite direct.

I haven't. I have worked so hard and cut out the crap and have drank 2 litres of water everyday and have been so active and I have lost 10 pounds. I am gutted I still have a fat face.

Usually I would dive headfirst into a tub of ice cream but I don't think I deserve any food now

You surely misunderstood her? Shock I really can't imagine that a woman, especially a woman who works in the beauty industry would ask such a thing. Perhaps she meant that you lost weight? And of course you can appear puffy when you've had your brows done.

Anyway, her comment doesn't matter because you've LOST 10 pounds. That's brilliant!!

Enjoy your holiday and well done on your weightloss. You'll feel brilliant Smile

I didn't misunderstand her, sadly.

I just feel so crushed. I am not looking forward to tomorrow any more.

She went onto tell me that she is the same and her face is first to go 'too' when she puts on weight.

We get on well, she had finished my treatment and we were drinking tea. I did act pretty wounded, drained my tea and said I had to be going.

She's obviously an idiot.

10 lb's is a huge loss, so you obviously do look different to when she last saw you. She must be utterly thick, not only to confuse that with weight gain, but to actually SAY it to you. It's hurtful and unprofessional Sad

Please go and enjoy your holiday.

Even if you had actually gained weight, you'd be silly to not enjoy the excitement of a holiday tomorrow!

OP, please don't let one tactless comment ruin your good work, or your holiday.

Firstly, you have lost 10lb in 3 weeks, which is a feat in itself worthy of serious pride. Secondly, you have resisted the comfort eating tactic.

How do you think you look when you look in the mirror, compared to three weeks ago? Just because one person, who probably doesn't see you very often or know you very well, thinks your face looks more puffy, doesn't mean they are right.

Enjoy your holiday, and congratulate yourself on your weightloss so far.

The thing is, I have always been a bit meaty, size 12 but short girl. And I was happy with that. If someone said I had put on weight, I would shrug it off. Didn't bother me because I thought I looked hot. But 3 weeks ago I just looked at myself and I couldn't see my features any more. I didn't even have a pretty face to go with the heavy body.

I have been obsessed with losing weight the past few weeks, and the beautician gave me the first comment about today about my weight that has hurt me in my life. It just cut.

I'm not making myself very clear. I was once happy with how I looked and I am not any more and it's hard to come to terms with the

'meaty' = strong.

I know it is hard to come to terms with changes in your looks, especially when we are bombarded with messages that reinforce how supposedly important it is to be attractive, however hard we try to resist them. Focus on what else you have going on in your life, and keep eating healthily, not obsessively. Anyway, you have lost enough weight that you will have lost it from your face, even if she doesn't see it (or if you are suffering from temporary bloat)

Now bollocks to that ignorant 'beautician', get packing for tomorrow and have a fab time. Smile
