Weight loss (or not!) and that time of the month

First time I've ever seriously attempted to lose some weight. Doing ok, lost about five pounds in a month, would like to get a stone off. Now gained 1.5 pounds in a couple of days. I'm used to being bloaty, but don't usually weight myself so no idea if I usually gain.

Is it likely to be just water weight? I fell off the wagon at the weekend, but ate normally, not excessively. So depressing to see the numbers creep up when I'm eating bloody lettuce.

I go up by up to 3kg so I try and avoid weighing then or I get demoralised. I'm sure it'll be water retention for you too if you haven't had a big blow out.
