One year of maintaining my goal weight after 122lb loss!

I am posting this to encourage anyone on this thread who is struggling or feeling daunted or hopeless or like giving up. At my heaviest, I was 262lbs and I have been 140lbs since this week 12 months ago. I have been a size 8 for a year down from a 22.

Losing the weight was both the easiest and hardest thing I've ever done and I just wanted to say that if I can do it, you can do it too. Good luck x

Well done on such a massive achievement.I can imagine that maintenance might be even harder than the loss as the incentive isn't as strong? You must be so delighted with yourself!

Brilliant! Weight loss is hard, but maintaining it is even harder.

Thanks Smile

FirstUpBestDressed When I first started, I always said maintenance would be the real achievement so I am pretty chuffed that I have reached a year but I stopped worrying about whether I could maintain it quite early on the year. My relationship with food and the way I think about it changed so dramatically that it hasn't been nearly as difficult as I thought it might be before I started losing the weight. I have plenty of incentive though. For a start, I don't own any bigger clothes Smile and it has improved so much about my life that I never want to go back to being overweight.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep I know. It's a whole person's worth Blush

ggirl I did one of the VLCD (Lighter Life which combines CBT). It's not the right choice for everyone for a whole lot of different reasons, but I did a lot of research and thinking about it beforehand and it was the right thing for me.

Huge congratulations!
How do you control your diet now? Any tips for the rest of us?

cathyandclaire It really hasn't been, and isn't, difficult to control it because I see food/eating so differently now. I eat pretty low carb, as I feel a lot better that way, but I eat what I want more or less. I used to weigh myself every day, but don't do it religiously every day anymore, and record the weight on an app on my phone. I have a 5lb zone I stay in. If I indulge in a big meal or stuff I normally wouldn't eat, then I'll see it on the scales and I'll cut back in the next few days. If the mental/emotional side of weight is addressed (and that is a huge thing), then it becomes far less something you need to think about or control.

My biggest tip is to throw clothes out the second they become loose and too big. And then to refuse anything bigger than what you own ever again.
