Modern village hall in Scotland

Hi,

I have previously posted looking for a different type of wedding venue but seeing the costs, I am now looking to price up village halls or similar in Scotland, with accommodation nearby (one big house or multiple, I don’t mind anymore, maybe guests could find their own).

We now have agreed on around 32 guests and the only criteria for a venue are:

  • cheap or cheap-ish (hundreds, not thousands of £)
  • modern looking (so not a Victorian building with a traditional interior)
  • in a beautiful setting (near a lake, waterfall or pretty gardens, not on a high street due to parking logistics for our large group and I don’t want to be walking down the high street in my dress)
  • location-wise, not further than Perthshire to the South or Inverness-shire to the North-North West. So Loch Lomond, Perthshire, Deeside, part of the Highlands all fit.

I am just getting so stressed Googling locations and maps. Please help!

Don't know if they still do it but syha used to do exclusive use of their hostels for weddings. They're usually in pretty beautiful parts of the country. Might be worth a look?

Also, if you'd be happy with Moray, try mfcha.org: they have loads of halls throughout Moray. I think Duffus might be perfect for what you're after.

No help on venues, but I walked down Bakewell high street in my wedding dress between hotel and venue, and it was amazing. All the cars stopped and tooted.
All the shoppers stopped and cheered.

Not a hall , but price seems low.
No link for it but apparently you can hire the village hall in a place called Grandtully. There is a pub across the road

Killearn Village Hall. With bells on.

Close to Glasgow, lovely countryside, Loch Lomond a few miles away, lovely contemporary space with a fabulous on-site cafe and catering from the Three Sisters Bake.

Can recommend the food, it's amazing!

PurBal, thanks, will have a look.

Youmeandconchitawurst, I really didn’t want anyone sleeling on bunk beds, just doesn’t seem classy (although I agree, it would be cheap). Will have a look at Moray, thanks!

BikeRunSki, that’s exactly why I wouldn’t want to walk down the high street.

Nooddsocksforme, thanks, will have a look.

I went to a wedding reception in Arrochar at the Three Villages Hall.
It is a modern building, whole village is on the Loch Lomond shore with stunning views, I have never seen anywhere so lovely.
There are loads of b&b's within walking distance and I remember walking back along the moonlit harbour to one with dh. It was perfect.

Lovely, isn't it? It is in the high street but there's a large car park. Plenty of accommodation locally too.

OtraCosaMariposa, although further from us then we would have liked, I contacted them a couple of days ago and waiting for a quote. Looks like it could cost quite a lot because it’s mentioned in wedding magazines😕 Is it literally on the high street? Not as worried about parking as I am about being the centre of every stranger’s attention, doesn’t feel special when you have to walk down a street as opposed to some woodland path, if you know what I mean.

Coffeethrowtrampbitch, thanks, will check it out. Was it nice inside? Did you pay for your own accommodation?

AgentProvocateur, thanks, but it’s not in the locations I’ve specified, completely not doable.

Drillbittaylor, do you know what their prices are like? Looks posh and further than we would have liked, but if it didn’t cost much, we would consider it.

With 32 guest ( so 4 round tables of 8) are you sure a hall is the right option. There is a danger if you don't pick the right one that you will be rattling around.
It's sounds like you would like a very private intimate space which can be difficult witb a hall as they are normally community spaces. Would a private house rental with large reception space be better?

Yes it's on the high street. But killearn is tiny. Directly opposite is a nursery which isn't open weekends. It's not a busy market town high street by any stretch.

Would a private room in a nice restaurant maybe be better size wise? I agree it may feel a bit cavernous with your number of guests to be in a hall? ps came on to recommend Killearn too!

Not a village but small seaside town about 20 minutes from Loch Lomond.

https://www.helensburghcos.org/meeting-place/

Helensburgh Parish Church has stunning halls attached to it, very modern but somehow totally integrated.

Their website is dreadful and doesn't show them off at all well!

There are some great caterers locally too and lots of lovely holiday cottages and hotels nearby for guests to stay in.

Island of Coll is lovely but not exactly accessible. OP wanted somewhere between Perth and Inverness - Coll is a three hour ferry from Oban!
