Saving Money on Photography - Manchester/Cheshire

Hi, I've been taking photographs for years but want to start getting some practise at weddings. Do you think that people trying to save money would consider using someone with very little wedding experience in return for a dramatically reduced fee - perhaps £150 for all shots on a CD + extra for editing if asked for? Naturally I would email them examples of my photography so they would be happy that I was talented.

Is this something you would do?

One other thing I considered was standing outside a registry office and politely approaching wedding parties arriving, and if they haven't arranged a photographer, asking them if they would like six 6x4 shots taken for £30 or something, (they wouldn't have to pay if they didn't like them). If they really liked one or two they may want some larger copies etc.

Are these ideas that you think might be popular?

I already have photographer booked - otherwise I would love to save some money.

I would suggest letting RL friends know your intentions, as word soon spreads.

I think it's a great idea, why not sign up to some wedding forums and see what response you get?

I live in that area but a friend of ours is already doing ours :)

Are you still looking for weddings Ramblingrose? I am getting married in August but it will be quite unconventional in that it will be very small with not many guests and I'm not going to be wearing a conventional white dress. I will have bridesmaids though. Would this be any good?

Sorry fivecandles - I haven't been on this site for a while. I watched this thread for a few weeks and then thought there wouldn't be any more responses.

Did you find a photographer? I am still looking for any weddings - and I love unconventional. I can send you a selection of photos I have taken in the past.

Another thing you could do it approach bridal shops in the area with samples of your work and see if they'd be happy for you to leave business cards for people coming into the shop?
