Good idea or bad? The BBC is rumbling about snow. What do you think?

It's a really hard call. Not too worried about Surrey, but I've got a funny feeling about Kent (which might not be justified) Unfortunately until the low pressure starts to track this evening we really still don't know the exact path and that is critical in forecasting what will happen. Will try to give you a better idea later.

Yes, here in Surrey preparing for the mother of all storms tonight. according to the BBC. Bit of snow forecast for tomorrow morning but don't think it'll come to much, it's too warm here at the mo. Forecast nice for the weekend.
(disclaimer: am definitely not a professional forecaster)

Toby - I think that it is possible that some of the heavier rain will turn to snow tomorrow for a time. I dont think it will hang around but could cause temporary chaos.

Yes, my journey is Saturday too, hopefully things will have calmed by then. Tomorrow sounds a bit hairy though...

How early could you accurately(ish) predict weather for next Friday?

Until it settles down at the moment Zandy not until we get much closer to Friday - its being a nightmare at the moment. However:

GFS - shows a low pressure crossing the north of Scotland bringing gales (perhaps severe) to the northern half and windy down south. Mild. (apart from northern Scotland)

ECMWF - shows a low pressure crossing to the north of scotland with strong winds over the north of the UK but less strong than above and the south being dominated by the edge of a high pressure. Mild.

Well in the end I got caught in an enormous blizzard on the way home on Sunday - going up the M11 just outside London. About 15 minutes of full-on snow, very little visibility so I just crawled along at 45mph hoping for the best! Was dry and clear the rest of the way. Hope everyone's journey was easy!
