BLW - loving it, but struggling a bit with timing of feeds

DS is just about 7 months, & we started BLW a few weeks ago. Generally it's great, as long as I can keep the faith that it doesn't really matter at the moment how much actually goes down.

The main thing I'm struggling with is timing. Breakfast seems to work ok - DS will have had a milk feed around the time of getting up (DS is BFd), & then we'll all have breakfast together an hour or so later. The tricky bit seems to be later on in the day. I've read that the recommendation is to give solids about an hour after a milk feed, but this often doesn't work out if DS is tired, as he gets quickly frustrated & upset with eating (BF is a bit problematic at the moment anyway as DS has taken to enthusiastic night time feeds, & is fabulously distracted & not feeding as much during the day, but that's another story...).

Can anyone offer any advice about how they time their solids feeding with milk feeds?

thanks.

When DD was BLWing I just fed her immediately before offering her food, she seemed to eat more that way. I found that if she was hungry she would get frustrated with trying to eat and give up

The feeds and meals drifted apart over time with no fuss or effort.

DS is 22 weeks and I'm planning to do the same with him

Hi Middlechicken I do the same. I bf 7.5m old DD just before our BLW adventures. I sometimes leave a 15 min gap but never as long as an hour. It seems to work ok. It doesn't seem to affect her eating. It's better I think to catch her before she's tired. Good luck!

My DD is 2.5 now but when we BLW I used to offer her food when I was eating rather than formally? So if we had breakfast together then say went swimming i would order us a toasted teacake in the cafe and offer her some and give her milk after (this would be about 10:30am - 11am) having had breakfast about 7:30am...

The I would adjust lunch after her nap, I think with BLW its more go with the flow or it was for me! DD eats well and often now!

I offered food when I was eating, and bfs when DS wanted them. No reason to leave big gaps - it's just one of those book things.

Thanks everyone, that's all very reassuring. I think we'll just try to go with making sure DS isn't too tired, and offering when we're eating, & see how it goes.
