At 7 months, as much as she wants to eat - if she's not interested in food much, then keep offering, otherwise let her lead the way - if she seems eager for more, offer more solid food, otherwise let her keep going on the milk

But at this age there should still be plenty of milk, and though solid food might physically fill her up more, there will be loads more calories in the milk...

Have recently switched my 6.5mo DD onto formula and she has gone from bf every 2 hours and 3 large meals to 8oz formula every 3 hours (at most) and 3 small meals and 2 snacks. She is and always has been big and hungry though (98th centile height and weight) - am seeing the health visitor on Thursday to see what she advises...

up to 8 months ds had 5 milk feeds (one was in the night). Our day went like this:

7.30am - milk
8am - breakfast
11am - milk
12pm - lunch
2.30pm - milk
5pm - dinner
7.15pm - milk
in the night till 8 months - milk

jayney, I'm glad you posted this, am having the same dilemma with DS - he is 7 1/2 months and I can never find any indication of portion sizes. I know people say be led by baby's appetite but today he had half a baked potato and some beans for lunch, followed by 3 breadsticks to keep him occupied while I ate, and he's still whinging now - should I just keep stuffing food down him?! He has 3 bottles a day plus 3 good size meals - eg for breakfast he has a whole weetabix, for dinner today he's having a scrambled egg followed by yoghurt.

He whinges constantly and it drives me nuts - the problem is I never know if he's whinging because he's still hungry or if he's switched to whinging about something else!

Anyway - not much use as a reply. but just needed to have a bit of a whinge myself!

Hi - i know this is a stupid question but DD is now BLW + FF. When anyone says "milk" how much do they mean? The same as she was having at feeds before, or should this be adjusted?

I would offer the same amount of milk as normal and let her take as much as she wants, especially if being BLW'd as not a lot of food may go in at first. My lo's naturally cut down their milk as their solids intake increased.

Love it when people say milk should be the main part of their diet - what happens if they just won't take much at 7 months. DS is not that keen on BFs during the day except before naps - he loves food though. If he is hungry he will take a few sips of BM then carry on whinging for food. DD at the same age wouldn't eat solids and only BF. All babies are different.

I too am cofused! My 6 month old is still having her normal 5 bottles a day. directly after her middle 3 feeds she will have a little bit of food (This was twice a day but I have just introduced the 3rd). I dont know what to do now - would it seem a sensible suggestion to increase the amount of solids at dinner time and drop this bottle (This is the time she eats the most solids anyway)
