WWYD - BLW question

DS is a few weeks into BLW and was doing ok but the last few days he's had a little go at each bit of veg I give him then dropped it all (carrot, baby corn, green beans) then got frustrated and was crying, so I picked him up and sat him on my knee, thinking I would just finish the meal and bf him. Then he went for the pear on the table, so I cut it up and he ate half of that and then half a banana.

My take on this is that he wants to fill up and that carrot etc aren't easy enough to eat so he gives up. He will eat brocolli, tomato, pitta -basically soft food that goes down quickly.

So what else could it be and WWYD?

Thanks

Just let him eat what he can/wants to eat. Solids are such a tiny proportion of his diet at the moment, that it doesn't really matter what they are - it's still all about learning right now.

I BF my DD before 'meals' for at least the first couple of months, she seemed to each much better if she wasn't hungry IYSWIM.

i'd say that blw is pretty much exploratory anyway, especially in the beginning, so best not done when hungry. also you could steam the carrot a bit longer by the sounds of it. and baby corn is the food of the devil...

If they aren't hungry they are free to enjoy the meals more 'sensuously' so will happily spend ages exploring and gumming something like baby corn on the cob.

...before deciding, quite rightly, that it's the food of the devil and dropping it on the floor.

He loved the baby corn the first few times and if I make the carrot any softer he just breaks it! And he loads when he can eat it quickly!

I guess I just need to bf more

Don't make it so hard for yourself! Have a bit of steamed or roasted veg in the fridge and just give him a peice or two to play with after a feed. Give him at bit of what your having at meal times just for the sake of it.

Rice cakes, bananas and ripe fruit are your friends

It wont be long before he's just eating the same as you I promise!

don't forget that in a month he'll have his pincer grip as well, which is much better fun for grip etc. dd2 currently addicted to sweetcorn.

Just give him chocolate spread sandwiches and crisps washed down with a good glug of coke. works for me.

FWIW I found that at the start of BLW DD (now 8 months) prefered eating on my lap - as in eating my food from my plate. When she's tired / teething / just feeling a bit low she still prefers this. A meal that started off in her highchair getting upset will often end with her stuffing her face from my lap and me having to sort some more food for myself.
