BLW and HUGE appetite!

I just wondered whether anyone elses BLW'd baby ate loads from the start!?

DS took it upon himself to start at 21 weeks (I was a bit gutted as I was planning to wait til 26 weeks but never mind!) and now 2 weeks in is packing away what seems to be a huge amount of food. Tonight he had about half an adult size rice cake, some avocado, 1 and a half apricots (he just spat out the skin) and some pear. I was astonished!

He doesn't seem to agree that food's fun til 1. He takes it very seriously!!

I guess all the stuff you read says that they won't actually eat a lot to begin with, doesn't matter if they're not having much etc and people will worry about them not eating so that's what you get on here but does anyone else have a baby who really relishes it and is filling thier face right from the start?

Oh dear. I thought I'd get some replies to this and people would just say that you don't worry and therefore don't talk about it if they're eating well.

He's just rather delicately nibbled some cucumber for breakfast so is obviously not a total pig

DS shoved in everything he could get his hands on from the start tbh. 2 weeks in he was eating steak and chips - well, gumming the steak strip to death and demolishing chunky wedges.

At 3 he is a brilliant eater still but def self regulates

DS has been the same since we started. He loves his food and eats everything.

I have kept an eye on his weight gain but he has stuck rigidly to the 50th centile so he is obviously eating what he needs and no more.

Mine started with loads for a few weeks, then dropped off completely when he was teething and would only have milk! At 7.5 months, he sometimes eats loads and sometimes very little.

Pinkspottywellies - DS2 has started BLW abit before six months - some days he eats loads (such as on saturday when he had mango, pineapple and rye bread) and other days hes a milk only boy. I think they'll go through phases when food is more interesting and when milk is more interesting instead.

I know what you mean! My 28 week old DS has been BLW for the last 3 weeks and after only a few days in I noticed he was actually swallowing a lot of what went in his mouth - I have been reading gill rapley's book which says about how 6 month olds won't be able to swallow so really wasn't expecting him to be eating so much so early.
I'm amazed by how quicklt hes picked it up - he's got through loads today - seemed to particularly enjoy the extra mature cheddar sticks i gave him!

DS is 7.5 months, we started BLW at 24 weeks as he was v keen. He was chomping bits of and swallowing them within 2-3 days and went on 3 meals a day almost straightaway.

He gets irritable at mealtimes and definately seems to be wanting 'food'. He tends to have a whole banana for breakfast, something like a quarter sandwich/cheese on toast/crumpet plus a tomato and most of a peach for lunch, and a good portion of casserole/chicken with veg for tea, with a slice or two of melon for pudding.

He has liked everything so far, except for some plain cod (can't blame him). He prob eats about the same as my dainty 2yo DD.
