Weaning

To wean or not to wean, that is the question...

Dd2 is 16 weeks (I know, I know) She was no tiddler at birth weighing 8lb12oz, never lost any weight and maintains a beautiful 75th centile curve in that daft book.

She feeds every 2 hours during the day and every hour from 1am onwards.
I'm shattered!

I had every intention of exclusively BF for 6mo, then BLW as with Ds2, but now I'm wondering if she is ready for something more now.

What do you think? I know what the recommendations are I just don't know what else to do!

Personally I'd say no. Her gut is not ready and they eat such tiny amounts to start with that it is unlikely to make a huge difference.

You know the answer, don't you, or you wouldn't have posted?

Why is a lower calorie solid food going to satisfy her more than milk which is what she is programmed to eat at this age?

It will get better, I promise - hang in there and remember, in the scheme of things, 16 weeks is not a very long time - enem though it feels like forever.

She slept a bit better last night for being swaddled.
Don't know why we stopped tbh, I probably forgot in the lack of sleep haze I'm wandering about in.

Anyway, yes Seeker, you're right I did kind of suspect what the answers would be, but yet still needed to ask iyswim.

Thanks for the replies

Aah that was a nice thread. Was expecting it to have descended into a bun fight already.

Big hungry babies are hard work aren't they? My dd was just off the chart for weight and length in that stupid little colouring book. She fed at least every 2 hrs day and night until nearly 8 months. Weaning (at 6.5 months and a whopping 26lbs) made bugger all difference.

Aah I love a chubby little baby. In retrospect of course.

Oh yes, she is gorgeously chubby
